About me and my therapy practice
At Octavia Therapy, we offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. My counselling approach is rooted in a psychodynamic perspective, focusing on how past experiences and unconscious patterns shape present thoughts, behaviours, and relationships. By exploring these deeper roots, we can break unhealthy cycles, build self-awareness, and foster meaningful, lasting change—moving beyond coping to real understanding. It focuses on understanding the root causes of your challenges within your personal context, without labels or diagnoses. Through therapy, you can gain clarity, confidence, emotional insight, and a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships. My approach also integrates solution-focused brief therapy aspects, thus helping you to articulate and work towards your goals.
Sessions are held virtually for your convenience, with accessible pricing options including concessions. There is no right or wrong issue for counselling - whatever you’re facing, you're welcome here. We will, however, have an introductory call prior to any sessions to discuss how we can work together and ensure that we are the right fit for each other.
I currently only work with individuals over the age of 18.
Fees - The cost for each 50 minute session is £45 for individuals and £55 for couples. If pre-paid in blocks of 3, 3 sessions will cost £120 in total (£40 per session) for individuals, and £135 in total (£45 per session) for couples. If pre-paid in blocks of 6, 6 sessions will cost £210 in total (£35 per session) for individuals, and £240 in total (£40 per session) for couples.
Concessionary rates for individual counselling are available for students, over-65s, keyworkers and refugees.
Practice description
I offer integrative online or phone counselling for adults and couples, drawing primarily on a psychodynamic approach—exploring how past experiences influence present thoughts and behaviours—while incorporating solution-focused techniques to support meaningful, goal-oriented change. As a qualified, Íø±¬ÃÅ-registered and insured counsellor, I provide a confidential, ethically grounded space that prioritises your safety, autonomy, and emotional wellbeing.
Sessions are held via secure, password-protected video platforms, and I take great care to uphold your privacy, with encrypted communications and confidential note-keeping. I may break confidentiality only where there’s a legal or serious safety concern. Payment is due 24 hours in advance, late cancellations are non-refundable, and respectful conduct is essential to continue therapy.
These aspects and other details will be included in a Client-Therapist Contract which I will send to you and require you to sign prior to commencing counselling. This is so that we can understand what to expect from each other and so that you are fully in the loop when it comes to making decisions.
Our work will begin with an initial assessment to ensure a good fit and to clarify your goals, and we’ll review progress together in regular intervals, especially during our sixth session. I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds and work to create an inclusive, respectful environment—while acknowledging current limitations around access for Deaf clients, which I am working to improve.
You can find out more about how we can work together at www.octaviatherapy.co.uk.
My first session
Prior to your first session, you will have received both a Contract and a Client Intake Form which you will have read through, signed to show me that you understand and agree to / completed the details, and returned to me via email. This ensures that we both clearly understand how we will work together and that I have necessary details from yourself (such as your GP contact for emergencies). We will have already had a free introductory call in which I'll carry out an informal assessment of sorts by just ascertaining what your previous counselling experience is (if any), and what your goals and hopes for therapy are.
The first session is then the time that you can bring whatever you'd like to (bearing in mind the limits of confidentiality). I understand that the first session can be incredibly daunting and it is very natural for you to not know where to begin or for you to try to get all your thoughts out as quickly as possible, and to feel a bit drained afterwards. You may find that you came to talk about several issues and you're not sure how they connect to each other, or you're feeling apprehensive about talking about an issue that you've kept to yourself for so long, or you feel a bit guilty about talking about other people in your life.
I'm here to listen, to understand, to help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and to articulate and work towards your goals. It is a safe space, just for you, where you can prioritise you, and where you do not have to worry about being judged or blamed, or having your feelings disregarded or minimised.
