About me and my therapy practice
It can feel strange and daunting starting therapy but it's also the gateway to change, growth, and importantly, the support that makes you feel less alone.
Perhaps you are feeling anxious, lost, stuck or confused, are experiencing relational difficulties, self-doubt, problems with self-esteem or acting in destructive ways. I am here to help you unpack your thoughts and feelings to bring clarity to your situation and explore what possibilities might be open to you.
We will talk about your life today, past experiences, key relationships and early attachments with caregivers which are critical to how we perceive our sense of self and relate to others. We will become curious together about what you learnt growing up, your world-view, your assumptions and even your bodily responses to situations that you face today, to help identify reoccurring patterns and disempowering beliefs that might be causing pain or limiting you.
Finding the right therapist is a personal and important choice and you should feel comfortable and safe with the therapist you see. The qualities of caring, respect and compassion are the foundations for the way I work. Whatever is troubling you or causing distress, I will work with you to help you face your difficulties in a supportive and confidential space.
I work with a range of clients from different backgrounds and across different age groups for both long and short periods of time. Some of the issues I work with include stress, anxiety, trauma, low mood, lack of self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life transitions and loss.
Practice description
I hold a PGDip and MSc in Humanistic Psychotherapy and trained for five years at the Metanoia Institute, a major centre for psychotherapy training in London.
I am a UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) accredited and registered practitioner, which means that I abide by the UKCP ethical guidelines and professional standards for practice and my work is regularly supervised.
As well as running my own psychotherapy practice, I have worked as a counsellor at the West London Centre for Counselling in Hammersmith and Metanoia Counselling and Psychotherapy Service in Ealing and volunteered at the South London and Maudsley Hospital on a psychiatric ward for women.
I work integratively, drawing on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including humanistic theories, attachment theory and neuroscience and trauma informed models. I work relationally which means I carry the belief that individuals grow, heal and change through relationship and that the quality of the relationship between you and me is what will ultimately enable real change to take place. I believe that my humanity and insight are as important as the psychological theory underpinning it all.
I am also a yoga teacher, accredited with the British Wheel of Yoga. I believe in the integration of mind and body and the importance of raising awareness of both when working psychotherapeutically. Yoga has helped me navigate and manage challenging times in my own life and I use some tools, such as breath awareness, grounding and relaxation techniques to help my clients.
My first session
Prior to working together, I offer a free 15-minute initial telephone conversation. This is a confidential conversation to understand what has brought you to therapy and how I might be able to help you. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions and find out if I am the right therapist for you.
Our first session will give you the opportunity to discuss your situation in more depth and share what you would like to achieve through therapy. We will also discuss how we can best work together to achieve your aims.
Sessions last 50 minutes, meeting usually once a week preferably at a regular time. The rhythm of regular weekly meetings helps to create a stable arena for change.
