About me and my therapy practice
Hi there, my name is Kat and I am a psychotherapist with an academic background in Psychology. I have an Honours Degree in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh. After graduating, I have acquired a COSCA Certificate of Counselling Skills and a Professional DIploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice. I have completed a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course and I practice mindfulness regularly. I run a trauma-informed practice.
I am an integrative counsellor which means I can use a range of approaches in our therapeutic work. I mainly use person-centred and CBT approaches, as well as ACT. I place a focus on establishing a safe and trusting relationship which becomes a foundation of the work. I work at the client's pace - you will be driving the therapeutic process and I will be in the passenger seat, supporting you. I believe that a different therapy should be constructed for each client depending on their unique needs - an equivalent of a custom-made suit :)
I am looking forward to accompanying you on the journey and helping you achieve your therapeutic goals.
Practice description
I am a person-centred practitioner, placing the needs of each individual at the heart of the practice. I like to work in a creative way - depending on your preferences, our sessions can include worksheets and regular homework. We can incorporate elements of breathwork, mindfulness, polyvagal theory and somatic experiencing. Some of my clients find imagery tools like Dixit helpful in the therapeutic room. I also encourage journalling between sessions.
My keen interest in psychology and neuroscience means I keep up to date with scientific journals and books on the topic - I am always learning and I regularly attend mental health conferences. I am interested in the field of ecopsychiatry and therapeutic ornitology - I like the idea of green prescriptions and I believe in the benefits of nature on our nervous systems. I offer outdoor therapy/walk and talk therapy. I am interested in the field of lifestyle medicine and the positive effect of physical activity on our health.
I do short- and long-term psychotherapy and I run regular reviews with my clients to refine therapeutic goals, to understand how the clients are feeling in the space, and to identify areas for improvement. I really value honest feedback - it helps me become a better practitioner.
I offer therapy in English and Polish.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute phone call so you can tell me a bit about what brings you to counselling and what you would like to achieve. This benefits both of us - you can check if I am the person you would like to work with, and I can assess if I am able to support you.
Sessions last 50 minutes, the first session includes contracting and helps clarify any doubts about counselling process.
