About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Janet and I welcome you and respect your courage in seeking support.
Together, with a gentle curiosity, we can explore those parts of your world that are challenging. You are the expert in your world and if you feel something isn't quite 'right' then it probably isn't.
A different perspective facilitates a deeper understanding of yourself. Reconnecting with the real you that may have been lost along the way and trusting yourself and your decisions provide opportunities for positive growth.
My person-centred approach offers you a kind, empathic, genuine, non-judgemental safe space where you can just be yourself. Whatever you decide to bring to therapy, I can offer you time, space and a professional listening ear.
My work respectfully responds to difference - you are unique. You may prefer a slower pace to think or a more direct exploration on why you are thinking, feeling or behaving in certain ways that are causing you increased anxiety/stress.
I can draw upon elements of cognitive, somatic and psychodynamic therapies or integrate psychoeducation into the session if and when appropriate.
I work as a volunteer counsellor for a national bereavement charity and have received considerable specialist training in this area. I support clients experiencing grief, loss, bereavement after suicide, trauma and the complex issues arising from experiencing grief.
I also worked as a volunteer counsellor at a local mental health charity, supporting clients experiencing many issues. This included working with clients signposted by their GP's or other charities.
Fully insured, fully qualified with up to date DBS checks.
Qualifications:
FdSc degree (distinction) in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Warwickshire College University Centre).
Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies, Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (Warwickshire College Group).
Bachelor Honours Degree of Economic and Social Studies in Psychology and Sociology (University of Swansea, Wales).
Practice description
I believe the most important element of therapy is to build a safe, trusting relationship that is genuinely collaborative. I will then calmly walk alongside, supporting you whilst you may be experiencing challenging issues.
I aim to provide you with the autonomy that provides an opportunity for positive individual growth, empowerment and choice. Your ongoing feedback is welcomed and important, as it allows the sessions to respond to your individual and changing needs - identifying what works and what doesn't work for you.
Clients often say that they feel a sense of relief from speaking without fear, being really heard and properly acknowledged. Often, in your daily life this is simply not possible, as you may feel scared, ashamed or guilty to burden your loved ones.
Whatever you're going through, I'm here to listen and support you at your own pace.
You are not alone.

With this in mind, I offer an initial, free, no obligation assessment session for about 15/20 minutes. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss what has brought you to therapy, and what you would like to get out of it.
Once we have agreed to work together, I will email you a copy of the contract for you to read through and sign. In order to keep you safe, as a minimum this includes client details, medical information and emergency contacts.
