About me and my therapy practice
I’m a child and adolescent psychotherapist based in St Albans. I offer a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental space where children, adolescents and their families can explore emotional difficulties and life challenges. I hold a Master’s degree in Integrative Child Psychotherapy and have been specifically trained to work therapeutically with children and adolescents aged 4 to 18.
Children and teenagers may come to therapy for many different reasons: struggles with friendships, low mood, anxiety, angry outbursts, or school-related issues. Others may be experiencing the impact of trauma, bereavement, family breakdown, or neurodiverse differences. Sometimes the reasons aren’t clear, but a child may seem persistently unhappy, withdrawn, or overwhelmed.
My work is grounded in humanistic integrative training, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches tailored to the individual child or young person. At the heart of my practice is a belief in each person’s capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding within a trusting therapeutic relationship. I take care to adapt the work to suit the developmental stage, emotional needs and unique way of communicating of every child or adolescent I work with.
My approach incorporates creative arts and play as powerful ways for children and young people to express their inner worlds, especially when words alone aren’t enough. The arts provide an alternative language through which unprocessed feelings can safely emerge and be explored.
I aim to support my clients in developing the emotional resilience and inner resources they need, not only to cope with current challenges, but also to build a stronger foundation for their lives ahead.
If you’re considering support, I’d be happy to have a conversation about whether I might be a good fit for your child or family.
Practice description
I may suggest meeting with parents or caregivers either together with their child or separately before we begin the therapy process. This allows us to explore what the concerns are and whether those concerns are shared or differ between family members. I may also ask about your child’s early history to help me understand their current difficulties in the context of their past experiences.
This initial meeting is an important step in getting to know one another and starting to think together about how therapy might be helpful. Please note that there is usually a minimum charge for this appointment.
Once we agree to work, I will share a contract detailing my policies and procedures. I strictly adhere to the Íø±¬ÃÅ Ethical Framework in all aspects of my practice.
There is usually an agreement for six sessions, and then we review if more sessions will be needed and if longer-term therapy is required.
