About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Mel Carr (she/her), a pluralistic counsellor based in Aberdeen and working online across the UK. I offer a warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative space where you can explore what’s going on for you, at your own pace, in your own way.
My practice, Therapy Your Way, is grounded in the belief that no one-size-fits-all approach works for everyone. That’s why I work with you to find the kinds of therapy that feel most helpful, drawing from a range of approaches including person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural, and creative methods.
People come to me for many reasons; perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to turn. Maybe you're living with the impact of trauma, navigating complex relationships, or struggling with anxiety, identity or self-worth. Whatever brings you here, I’ll listen without judgment and support you to make sense of your experiences, find your own way forward, and connect more deeply with who you are.
I’ve worked in various community-based settings including NHS care and third-sector services both here in Scotland and outside of the UK. I hold a postgraduate qualification in Pluralistic Counselling, and I’m a registered member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ and COSCA working in line with their ethical frameworks.
If you’re looking for a therapist who’ll meet you with openness, respect, and genuine care, I’d be glad to hear from you.
Practice description
At Therapy Your Way, I offer pluralistic counselling tailored to your unique needs, values, and preferences. Whether you're looking for space to explore your thoughts and feelings, tools to manage specific challenges, or a combination of both, we’ll work together to find an approach that feels right for you.
I provide counselling to adults (16+) both online across the UK and in-person in Aberdeen city centre, offering flexibility and choice in how you access support. My practice is inclusive, trauma-informed, and affirming of diverse identities and experiences.
Sessions are typically weekly and last 50 minutes. I offer short-term and open-ended therapy, depending on what you’re looking for.
If you’re unsure whether counselling is right for you, I’m happy to offer a free 20-minute introductory call to answer any questions and help you decide.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute introductory phone or video call so we can get to know each other a little before booking a full session. This gives you a chance to ask questions, share what’s bringing you to therapy, and get a feel for whether I might be the right fit for you.
If you decide to go ahead, our first full session will be a chance to explore what you’d like to work on, what’s important to you, and how we might approach therapy together. I may ask a few gentle questions to get a fuller picture of your background, current situation, and hopes for counselling, but there’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to. I aim to keep the process as relaxed and collaborative as possible.
Sessions last 50 minutes and are charged at my usual rate.
