About me and my therapy practice

I am an approachable, empathetic and supportive qualified Counsellor offering in-person sessions in Central London, Brighton and online.

Perhaps you have come across my page with some of the following questions...

  • Are you feeling anxious or low?
  • Are you struggling to identify the root cause of these feelings?
  • Are you feeling stuck in certain patterns of behaviour or relationships?
  • Do you want to make changes in your life?

These challenges are common but it takes courage to try and address them. I see my role as offering you a safe, confidential and empathetic space to explore these questions, and more, in a way that works for you.

What I Can Help With

I can help you across a diverse set of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem, stress and bereavement. Seeking therapy and starting to address issues like these can often feel overwhelming and confusing, so I always look to work with clients in an open, straightforward and authentic way.

My History

I have specific experience working with clients living and/or working in a cross-cultural context; be that expats, NGO / charity workers, third culture kids, and more.

Outside of working as a Counsellor, I spent twenty years working in the commercial and charity sectors, both in the UK and abroad, and thus have an insight into the unique challenges that these sectors can bring.

Next Steps

We can meet in beautiful London rooms near Old Street / Farringdon, in central Brighton or online. Sessions start from £65 in Brighton and £80 in London, lasting for 50 minutes.

If you think I can help, please contact me via telephone, text or email to arrange a free 30 minute telephone consultation.

Practice description

Integrative Approach

I trained in the 'integrative' diploma programme at Metanoia Institute in London. Therapy and counselling can often overcomplicate theoretical concepts, leaving potential clients unclear on what terms like this mean. So, to break my training down, integrative refers to an approach where I use different techniques and ideas from a broad range of therapeutic schools to address a client's unique needs. In other words, I start with your needs and then consider which theories and psychological concepts might best suit these, rather than being fixed on a single approach.

I use many different theories but am drawn to the idea that the past often has an influence on how you live your life today (described as the ‘psychodynamic’ model). In terms of this psychodynamic thinking, psychological distress can very often be caused by the experiences that we have in our early years. These experiences become an internalised blueprint which shapes our sense of self throughout later life and can reverberate down through later years. It does not mean that the sum of therapy has to focus on these early experiences, but it often gives us a good starting point.

Relationship is Key

While recognising that there is a scale for the extent to which different individuals need relationships to function and thrive, it is in early relationships that challenges can often originate for individuals. It therefore follows that new forms of relationship can provide the best vehicle for these parts to be repaired.

The relationship that forms between therapist and client is totally unique and is a key focus of my work. Like all healthy relationships, this means that therapy can involve challenging conversations that explore difficult subjects and the pain associated with them, but can also offer laughter, light and hope.

My first session

Free Consultation

Initially, I hold a free 30 minute phone consultation in which you outline the issues that have led you to contact me. This is also a chance for you to hear about my approach and ask any questions you may have. Research proves time and time again that the most important success factor for therapy outcomes is the relationship that forms between therapist and client, so this is a chance for us to honestly assess whether we both feel if we are a good match. I follow the Íø±¬ÃÅ’s ethical framework and will not hesitate to make a referral to another practitioner if I feel that you will be better served by someone else.

First Sessions

During our first one or two sessions, there is often a lot for me to learn about your history and what has brought you to counselling. We will also use these first sessions to agree on an approach to our work together. For example, are you looking to work in an open-ended way or do you have a certain number of sessions in mind? What are your objectives and how will we check in on progress against these?
