About me and my therapy practice

Hello, and welcome. I'm Dominic McCabe, most people call me Dom.

I'm a trauma-informed psychotherapist working with adults experiencing anxiety and low mood, trauma and CPTSD, shame and low self-esteem, grief and loss, and relationship difficulties.

You might be finding day-to-day life hard to keep up with, carrying painful past experiences, or caught in a loop of self-criticism that says you're not good enough. Perhaps sleep is unsettled, motivation is low, or your mind feels noisy and relentless. These feelings can be hard to name, and even harder to share, and it makes sense that you feel stretched and overwhelmed. You deserve space, understanding, and compassion.

When life builds up like this, it can show up as depression, a heavy cloud that drains your energy and makes it hard to take pleasure in what you once enjoyed. Anger may surface in ways that are difficult to understand or control, leaving you feeling isolated, ashamed or confused. Emotional pain, sadness, fear and disconnection can take hold, and even simple tasks can start to feel like too much. If this resonates, and you find yourself in a cycle of anxious thoughts, low mood or self-doubt, please know that you are not alone.

I understand that seeking therapy can feel daunting, but it can also be the first step toward real change. As an integrative therapist, I offer a flexible, tailored approach that adapts to your needs, ensuring therapy works for you.

Together, we can explore your experiences, creating the headspace to understand patterns from the past that may be shaping your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours today. At the same time, we can focus on practical steps to help you move forward and make meaningful changes. By helping you create this balance between reflection and action, you can begin to gain clarity and a deeper understanding of yourself.

Practice description

Within a safe therapeutic relationship, there is space to be heard, to feel understood, and to begin making sense of what you are going through. Therapy is a collaborative and empowering journey, enabling a shift from feeling alone in your struggles to re-discovering connection, compassion for self, and your strengths while building resilience for the future. Together, we can begin to untangle what feels overwhelming and move towards renewed wellbeing and emotional freedom.

Drawing from Person-Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic principles, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I tailor each session to meet your unique needs, creating a flexible, compassionate, and effective approach to healing.

I know firsthand how transformative therapy can be. My own experiences, alongside my BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy and hours of additional training, have deepened my passion for helping others break free from emotional distress and find peace, self-acceptance, and direction.

I have a specialist interest in working with autism, ADHD, men鈥檚 mental health, complex PTSD (CPTSD) and recovery from addiction. These areas are often misunderstood or overlooked, and I鈥檓 passionate about offering a therapeutic space where clients can feel seen, heard, and supported without judgment.

I offer a free initial consultation as a relaxed and supportive space for us to get to know each other. It鈥檚 an opportunity to talk about what鈥檚 bringing you to therapy, explore your needs, and see if I鈥檓 the right person to support you. You鈥檙e welcome to get in touch by email, text, or phone. I aim to respond within 24 hours. If you don鈥檛 hear back, please check your spam or junk folder, just in case.

Taking the first step can be challenging, but if you are ready to talk, I鈥檓 here to listen. Reach out today and let鈥檚 begin the conversation.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome, I am Dom, a trauma-informed therapist. If day-to-day life feels like an exhausting drag, just surviving rather than living, that could be because your nervous system is tuned to read threats and keep you safe. When it stays on high alert, the pace of society and the pressure to meet every role you hold at once 鈥攚orker, parent, carer, partner, friend, student 鈥攕tack up, and the world can feel too much. Therapy provides a steady foundation to feel safe and build a new story you can trust, allowing you to navigate your days with greater confidence.

Do you hold it together through meetings, emails, school runs and social rules, while feeling unheard and misunderstood, then look for comfort in screens or reach for drink or substances to take the edge off. Do shops, queues and notifications push in until your chest feels tight, with noise and bright spaces acting as triggers you never asked for. Does your nervous system stay on alert, reading false positives, jumping at sounds, sleeping lightly and planning exits just to feel safe, while you swing between racing thoughts and freeze. Getting support does not have to be scary, embarrassing or hard to keep up with. We will work at your pace, in plain language, with simple steps you can use between sessions.

Therapy can help you feel safer and more in control by mapping patterns and triggers so you can catch cues earlier and recover more quickly. We take time to understand your pain and build healthy routines that move you away from destructive habits. We grow a clearer understanding of yourself and your needs, so you can settle your nervous system and manage crowds, queues, notifications and relationships with more ease.

Practice description

I started my private practice out of both passion and frustration. Too often, the systems and expectations around us鈥攁t work, in services, in education and online鈥攄o not fit how people actually live, and they can wear us down. I work with adults navigating autism, ADHD, men鈥檚 mental health, complex post-traumatic stress and recovery from addiction who have felt the weight of that mismatch.

With the right support, it is possible to feel safer, more in control and more present. I understand how masking, triggers, and constant pressure take their toll, and I help you make sense of it in a way that respects how your mind and body work.

Clients tell me they build a kinder relationship with themselves, feel more in tune with the world around them and find their voice again. They ask for what they need, set limits that hold and make choices that fit their values. Over time, the push and pull of old patterns eases and daily life feels more manageable.

If this speaks to you, reach out today to arrange a free consultation so we can decide together what would help next.
