About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Tara.

I understand that coming to see a counsellor is a big step, and I want to help you feel more at ease.

As a person I am genuine, calm and down to earth. I trained as a counsellor later in life, and having had my own fair share of difficult experiences, I have a real understanding and empathy to the pain and confusion that life can bring. I believe counselling is for everyone, and can support you in growing and healing from challenging life experiences.

I have had people coming to see me for different reasons, such as burn out, stress, feeling low, feeling worthless, experienced bullying, survived domestic abuse, had thoughts and feelings of being stuck, sad or not feeling the joy in life and not knowing why, amongst many other reasons.

As a person centred counsellor, a trusting therapeutic relationship is key, so you feel comfortable to talk without fear of criticism, to explore any underlying feelings or reasons for any changes in mood or thinking. I can offer a safe, confidential space where you will lead at a pace that feels right for you, and where you are valued and accepted just as you are. You have the freedom to share even the most challenging parts of you and your experience, knowing that I am there to listen without judgement. I offer a warm, compassionate space, where you may uncover a deeper understanding of what is behind your thoughts or behaviours, acknowledge areas for growth, explore your values, even identify potential goals if you choose.

I am passionate about supporting mental health in the workplace, as having worked for a large organisation myself I am acutely aware of the pressures, and mental health challenges such as stress, burn-out anxiety and depression.

Practice description

I run a private practice, offering counselling online and also by phone. 

I provide a professional, confidential and safe space to work with you to support on a range of difficulties, such as:

Burn-out.

Work related stressors.

Anxiety. 

Depression.

Improving confidence and self-esteem.

Understanding and coping with peri- and menopause.

Relationship problems.

Stress related difficulties.

Parenting challenges.

Caring responsibilities.

I have over 20 years experience, working in the NHS with parents/carers and neurodivergent children. I have lived experience both through work and personally of ADHD and Autism, so have an understanding of the unique joys and challenges for parents, and explore this with care, kindness and compassion.

Please note, I work part-time and aim to respond to any messages with 24 hours.

My first session

I am a fully qualified counsellor trained in the person-centred approach, so it's not my job tell you what to do, however it is my job to ensure you feel comfortable enough to talk to me, and I will work with you to explore your own path at your pace. 

The first session will be your opportunity to discover if you feel comfortable and connected, as it's important that you find the therapist that is the best fit for you, and it will be the foundation for building a safe, genuine space of trust and respect for future sessions. 

It may feel overwhelming, however it's ok to ask questions, and I aim to ensure you feel empowered and at ease during our sessions together.
