About me and my therapy practice
Looking for help with anxiety, stress, burnout, overwhelm, trauma, depression, issues from childhood or finding a sense of purpose whilst juggling family and work commitments? I can help you realise why you feel the way you do and find a way to feel better. With empathy and understanding, I know how to listen to find out what’s really going on.
For couples counselling my focus is on the relationship between you and your partner. Often the problem is about communication and understanding. I can help you find ways of communicating more effectively so that you can live more harmoniously with each other regardless of whether you live together or are in a relationship, or separating but need it to remain calm and amicable.
We are not usually taught how to regulate our emotions or communicate effectively. The effects of this are often seen in our relationships with other people, whether intimate partners, family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues. The way we have been treated may create low self-esteem or critical self-talk but we can look at this and find more effective ways of living, thus generating more fulfilment and contentment in life.
Practice description
I can blend person-centred counselling, mindfulness, CBT, solution-focused brief therapy and coaching/mentoring to help with whatever you are struggling with or want to achieve. My approach is geared around what you need or want, rather than a fixed technique. I am a trauma-informed practitioner with particular knowledge of:
- Men’s mental health and wellbeing
- Complex trauma (CPTSD)
- Childhood issues affecting us as adults such as childhood emotional neglect, abuse, bullying and care leavers
- Major life transitions and how to navigate them such as relationships, health issues, living arrangements and career/job changes
- Neurodiversity (I am a neuro-affirming practitioner with understanding of autism, ADD, ADHD, synaesthesia, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia)
- Highly Sensitive Persons (HSP)
- Empaths
- Gifted Adults.
I'm also happy to discuss spiritual and religious aspects if they are a part of your life, and I can also help you understand your life more and why it has turned out the way it has. Greater understanding can lead to a way forward.
Many people come to counselling thinking there is something wrong with them, or that they are broken and need fixing. But believing it doesn’t make it true. The reality is more likely that we are struggling to cope with the actions of other people or find it difficult to fit in. There might be some additional skills we can benefit from, but often it’s a case of learning our strengths and how to live from them.
Has anyone ever taken the time to really help you know yourself and see what’s right about you, rather than what’s ‘wrong’? I will.
