About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Sophie
Perhaps you have a particular issue you would like to work through, or perhaps you're not sure how you got here. Either way, I can help you untangle what’s happening, get to the root of the problem and together we can find practical tools and insight to help you feel your better self. I can provide a stable, non-judgemental environment to explore what’s going on.
One of my goals is to help you get to a point where you don’t feel like you need me anymore! (Though of course I’m always here to check back in with or pick up therapy again for another season). With time, I hope to build a relationship with my clients so we can talk openly with each other, even when some tough love is needed. I like to balance therapy between looking at the past, present and future which I find helps identify patterns and triggers, and informs how you move forwards.
I work with people who are experiencing anxiety and depression, struggling with relationships, significant life events, grief or transitions or those who aren’t sure what the specific issue is, they just know life isn’t looking and feeling as they want it too.
My speciality (but not limited to) is working with addiction and I have over a decade’s personal and professional experience. I have worked with alcohol, drugs (inc. ketamine, cocaine), as well as behavioural addictions such as sex, porn, gambling, work, food and exercise. Typically - but not exclusively - addiction has been the solution to underlying issues and once we have helped you stop and stay stopped, these can be addressed.
Single sessions to long-term therapy will be considered. I’m currently available for online sessions.
Practice description
I am trained in person-centred therapy, which places the client's wishes for the direction of therapy at the front of our priorities.
I also include elements of Psychodynamic therapy, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Schema therapy and Dialectical behavioural therapy.
Where appropriate, I will ask questions and make suggestions so you can benefit most from the session.
My first session
The first session is for you to tell me about what has brought you to therapy and to ask any questions you have about my practice and what to expect from our sessions. I will then ask you to tell me about your personal history, so I can get an understanding of whether we would be a good fit and you can see if you would like to work with me.
