About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel overwhelmed, lost, depressed, stuck and unable to see any hope or path forward? You just long for anything to take the pain and distress away? If this is a place you have reached, I believe I can help you.
I am a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist, based in west London. Person-centred counselling radically moves away from the belief that the therapist is the expert on your life. Instead, it empowers clients to discover the answers within themselves, which builds self-esteem, confidence and independence.
I can offer you a space where you will be listened to with empathy, warmth, without judgement or analysis, and feel heard, validated and cared for.
To date, much of my work has been supporting clients of all ages, who are struggling to cope with profound change in their lives, such as a devastating break-up, transitioning from work to retirement, or ability to disability. I can also help if you are facing difficulties such as grief, despair and suicidal thoughts, the impact of childhood trauma and neglect, or you live with chronic pain. Equally, some clients can feel anxious and depressed, though unsure why – all they know is you need somebody to talk to.
My practice is emotion-focused, working with the body and the mind. When we feel low, stressed, scared or anxious, our body tells us. My belief is counselling isn't solely about relieving mental distress. It can also help our physical pain and bodily discomfort. Counselling can work holistically.
Practice description
My Qualifications and Work experience
I trained at the Metanoia Institute in west London, where I gained a Clinical Diploma in Person-Centred Psychotherapy, and an MSc in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy.
I work with individual clients, and within the NHS Psychological Services, offering time-limited therapy.
Alongside my work, I volunteer at The Listening Place, an organisation which supports those who no longer feel life is worth living.
My Practice
Currently, I offer online sessions and face to face work at The Grove Neighbourhood Centre in W6, London. This is a lovely community centre with a special atmosphere. It is a very short walk (5 minutes) from Ravenscourt Park Tube or Hammersmith (8-10 minutes). There is a lift for anyone who needs easy access.
I can provide short term therapy (6 to 12 sessions) to explore one particular issue, or longer term work where the opportunity for more profound exploration is possible.
What to expect
I believe it is the therapeutic relationship that ultimately heals. For this reason, it is so important to find the right counsellor for you. I offer a free introductory online session of approx 15-20 minutes, to answer any questions you have about the process, and to see if I might be the right fit for you. If you then decide you would like to work with me, I will send you a contract, and a brief client data form asking for information such as contact details and an emergency contact.
Having a safe and confidential space to talk gives clients the chance to explore their feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and emotions. I find clients often use the space to reflect on their values, and begin to recognise entrenched beliefs and patterns that no longer serve them. Counselling offers an opportunity for change and healing.
My first session
First sessions can be daunting, especially if you haven't experienced therapy before, so we can use that time to talk about how you are feeling. Silence is often a valuable way to reflect, but during a first session, I won't ever leave you in an agonising and uncomfortable silence! If you are unsure what to say or how to start, that's OK. I can ask a few questions to break the ice, such as what your hopes and expectations of therapy might be.
I don't ask clients to complete an assessment but prior to a first appointment, I do send a counselling contract, along with a brief confidential data form, so a first session does give clients the opportunity to ask if anything is unclear.
