About me and my therapy practice

Talking therapy is about working together to reduce emotional suffering.

You may be struggling with your past, your present or your future. Life may have become difficult suddenly or it may have been difficult for a long time.

Whatever the reason for seeking help, therapy can provide a space for us to come into contact with a broader view of ourselves. We can use the time to think about how we navigate the world and our relationships with others.

Practice description

I am an integrative therapist. This means that I work with ideas and methods from various traditions including gestalt, psychodynamic, existential and transpersonal psychology.

It also means that I am interested in what 鈥減ersonal integration鈥 looks like for you.

We may uncover parts of ourselves that have been hidden from view, bringing together aspects of our existence that previously felt completely separate and unrelated. Developing a more integrated view of ourselves makes it more possible to be kind to ourselves and others, to hold healthy boundaries with ourselves and the world, and to tolerate difficult emotional experiences without reverting to coping mechanisms that no longer work for us.

I am passionate about the right of trainee therapists to have safe and ethical experiences in their training and placements. If you are a trainee therapist please contact me to discuss working together at a discounted rate.

My services are available to all clients regardless of difference or ability. I understand that working with a white male counsellor may feel challenging for some clients and I am committed to creating the safety and trust that is necessary for us to work together. Above all, I offer a contained, supportive and equitable environment to all potential clients.

My first session

Our first session is an opportunity for us to talk about what brings you to therapy now.

I will take some details from you such as address, GP surgery and emergency contact etc. We can also talk through the client / counsellor agreement if you have any questions about that.

It's important that we both feel comfortable working with each other. I highly recommend talking with a few different therapists before making your choice.

About me and my therapy practice

As a supervisor I am interested in your experience of yourself and your clients, and how your individual values and life story inform your work. As much as we may shine a light on your blind spots, I also want to amplify your existing strengths and abilities. "Work with what you've already got" is an important principle for me.

I believe that our working relationship should be an ongoing negotiation. For example, what do we want challenge to look like? What would work for you? Your sense of security and autonomy as a practitioner is important to me.

If you would like to discuss working together please get in touch to arrange a chat.
