About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Aisling and I am trained in Person-Centred Counselling.  CPCAB Diploma qualified, over 30 years, my career has included various roles in banking, education and hospice environments.  I draw from all of that when I work with clients who come for counselling, noticing that we all understand and learn differently.  I see the various pressures we come under from work, family, and life, and I use that empathy to help my clients, whatever age or stage.

During nearly 10 years working with children, initially in Learning Support, I was trained in 2017 by Educational Psychologists to specifically teach the difference between emotions and feelings; how to manage relationships with others and with the children themselves.  Starting the path to retrain as a Counsellor in 2020, I had doubts, but I'd also benefitted personally, and seeing how much understanding our relationship with our emotions could positively change how children felt about themselves, I kept going.

Person-centred practice means I'll listen to you and give you safe space to breathe.  Supporting without judgment, we'll work on building your skills and capacity - to find your peace of mind.

Understanding that talking alone to solve a problem isn’t always easy, I've done further certified training in Creative Counselling.  Especially if emotions and feelings are uncomfortable to verbalise, or when a client feels stuck, I've seen how using sand, pictures, cards, stones, and even basic drawing can shed another light.

Aisling isn't the easiest names to say out loud.  Irish, it translates to 'vision'.  In the past I've wanted a simpler name, noticing how it can make someone nervous to even read it unless they know that language.  Feeling less nervous, anxious, sad or angry, building confidence or learning anything may feel beyond what you can do at this moment.  However, you're here researching - that's a huge start.  There are no bad emotions; we need them all, but it is possible to step into more joy.  Let's talk about it.

Practice description

I am insured, enhanced DBS checked, and regularly update my knowledge through CPD and further training.  A registered member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ, I rely on and work to their ethical framework.  Work hours are relatively flexible (agreed in advance), and I offer an in-person and/or online service.

My current availability is for adults (age 18+) who want counselling.  On this, I have seen how helpful it can be to do counselling if you are caring for someone of any age, and equally, I appreciate things we thought were "ok" can overwhelm us in any stage of life.  Much of my work is around reducing the overwhelm and building stronger skills to manage difficult emotions.  Timing helps, but so does having a curiosity and want to feel better.

Booking 6 (weekly) sessions to begin is generally good advice, but this depends on your experience of counselling, and what you'd like to get out of it - something we can talk about more with a free 20 minute phone consultation.

For more information, and what to expect, I invite you to please visit my website.

My first session

For a free 20 minute telephone consultation, please drop me an email and include some times you could be available.

When we talk I'll ask you for some information (like contact details and some background), and why you think counselling might help.

I notice that clients often find it useful to talk first by phone, and then maybe have at least one 'in-person' session, with the option of continuing.  There is a Counselling Agreement that we both sign before any work begins.  It includes important information about confidentiality and safety.

The first 50 minute session is different for everyone but generally it's about figuring out what the next step in your journey could be, so I'll likely ask you a few questions about what's on your mind, and what you'd like to get out of counselling.
