About me and my therapy practice

With 20+ years of experience in mental health, I have worked across various settings including colleges, community mental health teams, and private practice. This extensive background has given me the opportunity to support individuals with a wide range of challenges, from anxiety and depression to trauma and relationship difficulties. My work has always been guided by a person-centred ethos - I believe that therapy should be a collaborative, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and empowered.

As well as working with adults, one of my key specialisms is working with teenagers - a stage of life that brings unique emotional and psychological challenges. Adolescence is a time of identity formation, social pressures, and increasing independence, and many young people struggle with self-esteem, academic stress, family conflict, or mental health concerns. My experience in colleges and community services has given me deep insight into these issues, and I tailor my approach to meet the specific needs of younger clients.

As a Transactional Analysis (TA) counsellor, I use this powerful framework to help clients understand the dynamics of their relationships - both with others and with themselves. TA is based on the idea that we all operate from three ego states鈥擯arent, Adult, and Child - and that recognising these can bring clarity to why we think, feel, and behave the way we do.

While TA forms the core of my practice, I also draw on other approaches to ensure therapy is tailored to each client鈥檚 needs. This flexibility means that whether you鈥檙e a teenager struggling with school pressure, an adult navigating relationship challenges, or someone dealing with anxiety or depression, we can work in a way that feels right for you.

Practice description

My practice in Winchester offers a safe, confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement. I work with teenagers (16+) and adults facing challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, or low self-esteem, including neurodivergent individuals (e.g., ADHD, autism).

My practice will offer you a deeper understanding of yourself and your challenges. I will introduce tools to cope with difficult emotions or situations and provide a supportive relationship to foster resilience and change.

We work collaboratively throughout our time together so you can expect there to be a conversation between us as opposed to you talking to someone who will only listen.

I adhere to 网爆门 guidelines, ensuring confidentiality (unless safety is at risk).

My practice is neurodiverse-affirming (ADHD/autism), LGBTQ+ welcoming and culturally sensitive.

My first session

Now that we've had our initial 15-minute consultation, your first full session will build on that conversation as we begin our therapeutic work together.

Prior to the first session, you will have received a therapy contract via email to review. If you're happy with the terms of the agreement, we will both sign the physical document and I will also ask you to provide details of your emergency contacts which include next of kin and GP. If our first session is taking place remotely, I will have asked for the documents to be completed, signed and returned beforehand.

Welcome & Confidentiality Check:

We'll briefly reconnect, recap confidentiality (e.g., limits around risk) and review what brought you to therapy, including anything that's come up since our consultation. I'll check if your needs or expectations have changed and answer any new questions you have. This is your space to share more about the challenges you're facing, whether that's anxiety, relationship issues, past experiences, or other concerns.

There's no pressure - you choose how much to share. We can focus on current struggles or explore how past experiences might be influencing your present. Silence is welcome too. I may ask gentle questions to clarify your experiences or goals (e.g., 鈥淗ow does this affect your daily life?鈥).

Collaborative Planning:

We鈥檒l discuss what you鈥檇 like from our sessions together (e.g., coping tools, self-understanding) and how confirm how frequently we meet (usually weekly). I鈥檒l explain my therapeutic approach (Humanistic Counselling with Transactional Analysis) and invite your questions.

Wrapping up and next steps:

We'll reflect on how the session felt for you and discuss whether you'd like to continue working together. If we agree to proceed, we'll schedule our next sessions and I'll explain the practicalities (like payment and cancellation policies).

Please note: Many feel anxious before their first session. That鈥檚 normal! My role is to listen, not judge. We鈥檒l go at your pace.
