About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Alice, a compassionate and non-judgemental psychodynamic psychotherapist. I help people explore and overcome the difficulties stopping them from enjoying rewarding lives and fulfilling relationships. I work with adults online and in-person, both on a short term, or ongoing basis.

I passionately believe in the possibility of change, and, that given enough time and space, everyone can enjoy a richer, happier life. Sometimes you just need the help of a therapist to find your way there.

I know choosing a therapist to share your thoughts and feelings with takes a leap of faith. Trust your instincts, and if you feel I could be a good fit, please get in touch to arrange an initial conversation, where you can ask me any questions you might have.

My therapeutic approach

As a psychodynamic therapist, I’m interested in your past and present. Childhood experiences create coping mechanisms (often out of your awareness) which impact how you move through the world. Increasing awareness of these patterns allows you to alter thoughts, feelings and behaviours – to fundamentally redefine your relationship with yourself and others and experience life differently.

My qualifications

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma (Distinction) in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Brighton. This diploma is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I also have a degree in Psychology, and, prior to training as a therapist, I worked in secure settings and the legal profession, giving me specific experience of the pressures and traumatic issues faced by people with experience of the justice system, whatever form that might take.

Practice description

How I can help you

I am experienced in supporting clients to:

  • Process difficult and traumatic experiences, including sexual and childhood trauma
  • Build resilience and self-esteem to better manage depression, anxiety, and panic
  • Develop greater self-awareness to reduce repeated distressing or unhelpful behaviours
  • Clarify feelings about neurodiversity to navigate the world with greater confidence
  • Explore gender or sexual identities to feel more comfortable in themselves and in relationships
  • Understand behaviour and thought patterns to improve relationship difficulties
  • Examine who they are, where they are in life, how they got there, and where they’d like to be.

However you’re feeling, and whatever has happened to you, I can help by:

  • Listening with curiosity, compassion, and no judgement
  • Taking you, and your difficulties, seriously
  • Offering an affirming, supportive space where you can bring all of yourself, however you identify
  • Building a trusting relationship with you where we can explore your feelings
  • Sensitively developing knowledge of your inner world, including patterns you may be repeating which aren’t helping you.

This can increase your sense of well-being and equip you better for the future, allowing you to move forward with more confidence and self-awareness.

What will I be like?

I’m kind, empathetic, and curious about what makes you, you. I know talking about your feelings can be difficult, so we'll go at your pace, and I'll support you throughout our work together. Unlike friends and family, I won't judge or give you advice, instead, I’ll offer an alternative perspective to untangle and reframe your feelings.

Regardless of what we discuss, how we meet, and for how long, I will hold your story with the greatest care, providing a confidential, private, and caring space, where I hope you can feel safe.

My first session

Our first session is a chance for you to ask me any and all questions you’d like, and to get a sense of me and the way I work. It also gives me a chance to understand what brings you to therapy and what you are hoping for. It’s especially helpful to hear from you – in as much detail as you feel comfortable with – what is troubling you.

This first session can feel quite intense or cathartic, but you don’t need to prepare or feel your story has to be perfect. I will ask some questions, but it is your space and time to tell me how I can help you. This will help us both decide whether working together could be the right option for you.

In this session I’ll also go through my client agreement with you, which includes my confidentiality and cancellation policies.

There is no obligation to continue working with me beyond this session, but if we do agree to work together, I usually meet clients weekly, on the same day, at the same time, as consistency supports change. If that doesn't work for you, please contact me to discuss how we can work together.
