About me and my therapy practice
My name is Les. Like many therapists I have benefited hugely from therapy at different times in my life. Therapy can help us make sense of difficulties we are experiencing or issues in our past which are affecting us in ways we may not fully understand in the present. Therapy can help us make sense of ourselves.
I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, trained to listen attentively and to pay particular attention to what might be going on behind the words themselves. I provide a confidential and non-judgmental space in which we can think together about, and seek to make sense of, the unconscious processes that are driving how we think, feel and act. The past casts a long shadow, and often it is in understanding our earliest experiences that we can recognise and comprehend how it continues to play out in our present, and constrain our future, shaping our beliefs and our behaviours. Anxiety, depression, addictions, our responses to traumatic events and difficulties in relationships all have their roots in earlier experiences and how we had to cope with them at the time.
Having a safe and containing space where you are listened to, and where these things can be thought about and made sense of, can help shed light on and bring new understanding to the psychic pain we are experiencing, opening up the possibility of real change. What you experience outside of therapy will also be experienced in therapy. Your relationship to me in the room will, at times, mirror your relationships outside the room, and thinking about and examining these can bring about real insight, growth, understanding and change.
Practice description
I typically work with individuals on a longer term basis which allows for a deeper exploration of the experiences and relationships that shape our current reality. I also see clients for shorter term work which tends to be more focused on a specific issue or situation.
Initially, we would arrange a free fifteen minute consultation (by phone) to discuss how we might work together, to give you an opportunity to outline your reasons for seeking therapy at this time, and to establish that we are a good fit for each other.
I work mostly in-person but do have a number of online hours. I offer weekly, fifty minute therapy sessions on the same day and at the same time each week. The structured and regular nature of these allows us space to fully explore the roots and causes of the issues that have brought you to therapy, and to facilitate greater understanding, insight and meaningful change.
My practice is based in Central London and in Chesham.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (Íø±¬ÃÅ) and work within their ethical framework.
