About me and my therapy practice
Our emotions are designed to keep us safe. However, our minds don’t always respond the way we would like to, with many of us struggling to manage depression and/or anxiety. Sometimes presenting challenges in our relationships and other areas of our lives. Thankfully, we can adapt our brain, soothe, understand, and teach it how to respond more helpfully. Understanding why you experience these challenges the way you do helps your mind feel safer, meaning our mind doesn’t feel it needs to create extreme emotional responses. This combined with learning skills to manage thoughts and calm bodily responses triggered by perceived threat enables us to better cope. As a therapist I have sought to master therapies that are helpful in understanding and in creating new ways of thinking, feeling and doing. That are evidence based, tried and tested on a range of different mental health experiences, as well as supporting those that experience the world differently, such as those on the autistic spectrum. Drawing from different perspectives and interventions means in therapy we will be able to tailor the work to your needs.
Practice description
It can be daunting to commit to therapy if it's something you haven’t experienced before, or to be honest, even if you have. It may help to know what to expect before you reach out. Together we would explore your experience of the world, the challenges and your goals. Our therapy together would be unique to your specific needs. Every six weeks we would reflect on your goals and make a plan moving forward, the therapy evolving as you do.

The therapy sessions we have together would consider the way you experience the world, yourself, and others, gaining valuable insight to be able to increase self-understanding, acceptance, and hopefully love. Therapy sessions may also involve skill building and problem solving in evidence-based therapies backed by the NHS. What I've found most effective and valuable in working with people, beyond the skills gained from qualifications, is the ability to connect, to wholeheartedly accept and understand someone for who they are.
