About me and my therapy practice

Perhaps you are a little unsure where to start? Reaching out for help takes courage, so if you’re visiting my profile for the first time please know, you are so welcome here. Is fear, anxiety, or stress holding you back? Do you find yourself becoming easily overwhelmed/ unable to cope? Perhaps you are feeling stuck in life or disappointed where you're at? Have you recently experienced a life transition such as losing a loved one, becoming a parent, or going through a divorce? Any of these changes, and more, can bring up emotions and questions that perhaps you didn’t expect and now you find yourself trying to navigate them.

I can help you to reconnect with yourself, to build resilience and self-esteem, to explore fears for the future and pain of the past, and to understand what's holding you back in relationship with others or yourself, and to help you cope with life's demands. My focus is on creating a safe, nurturing environment where you feel heard, valued, and understood.

My approach is gentle and collaborative, respecting where you’re at and helping to guide you at a pace that feels right for you, free from judgement. Once you understand your own unique story, you will have the knowledge to move forward. My aim is to help you unlock this power and help equip you with the tools to help navigate life’s transitions and challenges.

Practice description

I support clients through the transitions in life such as bereavement, loss, becoming a parent, etc, which often result in feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, and loneliness, to name but a few. I also carefully support areas of trauma in a persons life and help find ways to stabilise and resource clients in the therapy room as well as out in the world between sessions.

Other areas of expertise and experience include Domestic Abuse, Self Esteem, Bereavement, Pregnancy (plus Prenatal & Postpartum), Relationship Issues, Spirituality, Trauma & Childhood Trauma, Working to support parents of disabled children/ children with additional needs.

I use an Integrative approach to counselling and psychotherapy meaning I work according to your needs...you don't have to 'fit into' my way of working.

I draw on a number of different theories and types of therapy including: Person centred theory, Creative Therapy, Attachment-based, Christian Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour (DBT), Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), Narrative Therapy, Positive Psychology, Psychodynamic Therapy, Reality & Choice Therapy, Somatic practice, Transactional Analysis, and Trauma Focused.

My first session

If you decide that I might be a good fit for you based on the information on this profile and via my website (I also offer a free 15 minute phone call for any questions or peace of mind), we will arrange a 30 minute phone call to help me understand a bit more about you and your current situation, like why you have decided to reach out for therapy at this time.

We will discuss the therapeutic contract including areas such as confidentiality, before agreeing on a suitable day and time for weekly sessions. I encourage one session per week to begin, in order to gain momentum to promote healing, which can then be reviewed together after around 10 sessions and rearranged to once every 2 weeks according to your preference and my availability at the time.

I offer a 50 minute session with an open ended approach to therapy, meaning you are not limited (to date for example, I have worked with clients from between 8 - 80 sessions over 3 months to 2 years). We will however ‘check in’ every 6 sessions to review and ensure we are working towards achieving your goals whilst assessing and accommodating any changes.

Therapy sessions take place either face to face in my therapy room in East Belfast or online via Zoom. I work weekday mornings from 9:30am- 1:30pm Tuesday - Friday, and evenings from 6:45pm Monday - Wednesday. Individual sessions cost £45 (evening sessions cost £50) and I offer a limited number of reduced rate places for carers or those on a lower income.
