About me and my therapy practice
It's taken you a lot to get here, right? Finding a safe space where you can explore whatever it is you are going through right now. Be sure that you will find me to be a calm, warm, empathetic and non-judgmental therapist, ready to help you on your journey to whomever you aspire to be.
I help my clients with anxiety, depression, couples/relationship therapy, childhood trauma, sexual trauma, domestic/sexual abuse and violence (both genders), relationships, divorce/break-up, grief, neurodiversity, disability, chronic health conditions, PTSD, CPTSD and addiction, particularly within the veteran community.
Fundamental to my work is the therapeutic relationship, it is client led - after all, you are the expert on your life. I feel my role is to journey with you, to share my experiencing of your world, whether that be verbally, through a bodily felt sense, through the use of imagery or any other form of communication that is appropriate.
Working together, we will navigate through your experiences and/or issues helping you to learn to trust yourself, love yourself and develop into the person you long to be. There may be challenges but there will always be empathy, acceptance and non-judgement.
I trained as a person-centred counsellor and have become an integrative therapist through the specialist training that I have undertaken post qualifying. I find that working in this way enables me to tailor my therapeutic offering to suit what best works for you, as the client, whether that be psychodynamic, transactional analysis, gestalt or other relevant theoretical framework.
Working with individuals and couples in my private practice in Camelford. I cover North Cornwall; Camelford, Delabole, Tintagel, Boscastle, Wadebridge, Rock, Polzeath, Port Isaac, Bude and Launceston.
Practice description
As a therapist/counsellor I like to think of myself like the environment within which I live. Solid like the rocks, adaptable like the sand and calming like the sea.
In addition to my private practice I volunteer for a men's specialist counselling agency, working with trauma, sexual trauma, domestic/sexual abuse and violence (both genders), relationships, grief, neurodiversity, disability, PTSD, CPTSD and addiction.
I also volunteer for a specialist national addiction service where I specialise in offering counselling to veterans in addiction or recovering from addiction. Being a qualified counsellor and veteran myself gives me a unique insight into the additional challenges faced by this cohort of clients.
COUPLES AND RELATIONSHIP THERAPY
I work with blended theory, using my skills as a psychotherapist and counsellor to tailor my approach to your relationship, which will be the focus of our work together. I work with all types of relationship dynamic: couples; open, ethical/consensual non-monogamy; polycules. I consider myself to be an LGBTQ+ ally and am experienced in working with neurodiversity.
We will conduct an assessment session together before committing to continuing to work together. This is an opportunity to look at what has bought you to therapy, your beliefs and values, diversity considerations and any other factor that affects your relationship.
Following on from the assessment session, I may suggest that we have a session one to one for each partner before starting the work as a couple.
Some of the things you might want to think about before embarking on couples/relationship therapy is whether you are able to commit to it, both in terms of time and financially. Therapy may last from a few months to a year or more. Another consideration is whether you and/or your partner also require individual therapy prior to or in tandem with couples therapy,
