About me and my therapy practice

Hiya! I鈥檓 Abbey, a bubbly, straight-talking, person-centred counsellor from Liverpool. I鈥檓 passionate about helping people untangle life鈥檚 messy moments and reconnect with their true selves.

First off, I just want to say well done. Reaching out for counselling can feel very scary, and you鈥檝e already taken that first brave step by being here. Finding the right counsellor can feel a bit overwhelming, so I thought I鈥檇 share a bit about me to help you decide if I am a good fit for you.

Like many counsellors, my path started from my own experience of struggling with mental health when I was younger. Having the right therapist back then helped me rebuild my sense of self, and that鈥檚 what inspired me to want to do the same for others. I have a diagnosis of AuDHD (that鈥檚 Autism + ADHD), so I know what it鈥檚 like when your brain doesn鈥檛 quite fit the 鈥渟tandard settings鈥! Whether you鈥檙e neurodivergent, figuring things out, or just trying to make sense of a chaotic world we live in, you鈥檒l find no judgment here, just empathy, compassion, and a dash of my Scouse humour.

How I Work

I offer a calm, supportive, confidential space where you can explore whatever鈥檚 going on for you: anxiety, depression, burnout, shame, guilt, grief, identity, or even that 鈥渓ost鈥 feeling you can鈥檛 quite name. I work collaboratively with you at your pace, because therapy isn鈥檛 one-size-fits-all. It鈥檚 about finding what works for you. I strive to establish a trusting and supportive relationship with my clients, built on empathy, respect, and authenticity. This relationship forms the foundation for our work together, helping clients feel comfortable opening up and exploring their concerns, and probably having a bit of a laugh along the way.

Practice description

I offer online and phone sessions for those who prefer flexibility. Even if you鈥檙e not tech-savvy, I鈥檒l make sure the online side of things feels simple and stress-free. Sessions are open-ended and completely tailored to you; you decide how long you鈥檇 like to continue.

My first session

If you decide to continue with me, our first session will be spent getting to know you better. I will ask for some basic details and then open up the conversation to get an overview of what you want from counselling and set some counselling aims. Only some people know what they would like to focus on at the beginning, so don't worry if you're unsure. My counselling contract is open-ended and tailored to you; therefore, you can have as few or as many sessions as you feel are appropriate.

It is very important that you feel comfortable in counselling. A crucial part of starting counselling is understanding the confidentiality you can expect from me as your counsellor and the boundaries around our sessions. We will discuss confidentiality as part of your initial session. I always adhere to the 网爆门 ethical code of conduct, which means I put clients first, work to professional standards, show respect, build appropriate relationships, maintain integrity, and demonstrate accountability, amongst other things.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, my name is Abbey. I am a fully qualified and experienced person-centred counsellor/psychotherapist dedicated to supporting individuals through their personal growth and healing journeys. I am happy you've taken the first step to starting your therapeutic process. I know choosing a counsellor can feel overwhelming, with so many counsellors offering a variety of talking therapies with various qualifications, so I thought I would explain a little bit about myself and my background to hopefully help you decide if I am a good fit for you.

When I was younger, I went through my own experiences of battling mental health, which led me to seek out personal therapy; I was lucky enough to have a therapist who helped me find myself again. Coming out the other end of my struggles, I decided I wanted to help those in a similar place. I believe my own experiences in mental health have given me the ability to have a deeper level of empathy, patience, and acceptance with my clients.

We all experience times of difficulty in our lives when events or relationships feel overwhelming, or we can feel a loss of direction or purpose; any reason is valid to enter therapy. I work collaboratively with clients to help them gain insight into their challenges and support them in their journey by offering a safe, non-judgmental, confidential space to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I strive to create a trusting and supportive relationship with my clients based on empathy, respect, and authenticity. This relationship forms the foundation for our work together, allowing clients to feel comfortable opening up and exploring their concerns. I have worked with a wide range of clients, and I am trained in trauma-informed approaches to help clients manage the symptoms of PTSD.

Practice description

I offer online or telephone appointments, which allow you to access counselling at a time and place that is convenient for you. Even if you struggle with technology, I can assure you I will make it as accessible and easy as possible.

My first session

Before the first full-length session, I offer a free 20-minute consultation to introduce ourselves. This consultation allows you to ask any questions you may have about me and how I work to ensure I am the right therapist for you.

If you decide to continue with me, our first session will be spent getting to know you better.
