About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Skye, a qualified integrative counsellor, reflective parenting group facilitator and community grief tender, with almost a decade's experience in the mental health sector. Welcome.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw upon various therapeutic approaches, depending on your needs, as they emerge and change moment to moment. This includes attachment, body-based, existential, feminist, person-centred, psychodynamic, queer and transpersonal theories and approaches.

I work relationally, meaning that the counsellor-client relationship is fundamental to us working well together and for you to feel safe enough to explore issues that may hold trauma or other strong feelings and experiences. I welcome clients sharing their experience of me and will often check in to see how our relationship is developing. Working in this way builds trust and can also help you to identify relationship patterns that may be present in your other relationships.

My practice is trauma-informed, validating your experience and supporting your understanding of how trauma impacts you. I work with you to identify what is needed to establish a sense of trust and safety in your body, where trauma often gets stuck, in your relationships, where trauma is often constellated, and in the wider world. Working in this way also promotes your strengths, capacities, personal choice and agency both in our work together and in life more broadly.

I am an LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapist and I take an anti-oppressive stance throughout my work. This means that I recognise the impact of systems of power and oppression on us all and see pathology or dysfunction as being located within the socio-economic and political structures, and the personal and professional settings and relationships in which we exist, rather than in the individual. In other words, context is everything and I work with you to think about how to resource yourself and to face discrimination and injustice in a way that feels affirming for you.

Practice description

I work with adults with a range of experiences, including (but not limited to) abuse, trauma, bereavement, loss, grief, big life changes, existential crises, isolation, despair, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, systemic oppression and violence that impacts you as an individual (e.g. racism, homophobia, transphobia etc.), and climate crisis.

I welcome working with all clients and have a particular interest in working with LGBTQIA+ people, young adults, neurodivergent people, and refugees and migrants.

I operate a sliding scale from £60 - £90 per session, with clients choosing what rate is affordable for them.  I have some concessionary slots for £40 for those on low income or in student or caring roles and one £5 - £10 slot for people who are unemployed or on benefits.

I offer short-term (minimum 12 weeks), long-term and open-ended therapy.

Sessions can be held online via Zoom, in person in a therapy room or outdoors in Brighton.

If you think we might work well together, then please do get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you.

Warmly, Skye (they/them)

My first session

I offer a free, 15 minute phone chat before we start working together so that you can ask me any questions you may have about counselling and the way I work and so that we can discuss practicalities (e.g. cost, location, time).

If you decide to proceed, we will then have an initial 50-minute consultation session to discuss what brings you to counselling and what you hope to get out of it. This session will be charged at the normal rate agreed between us. It will give us the chance to decide whether we feel like a good fit to continue working together.

If we decide to proceed together, your sessions will be led by you and whatever it is you wish to discuss that session. Sessions are 50 minutes and are held weekly, at the same time and day each week.
