About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor working from a person-centred, integrative approach, with a particular focus on addiction and trauma. My work is informed by years of experience supporting individuals facing complex challenges, including homelessness, mental health issues, and substance use.
I have worked extensively with people affected by addiction and mental health difficulties. I spent four years keyworking with a homelessness charity and three years at a drug and alcohol support service, delivering one-to-one counselling sessions, therapeutic group work, and comprehensive assessments to ensure a thorough understanding of the presenting issues and histories of those accessing support.
I am passionate about helping individuals who may struggle to engage with support due to stigma, marginalisation, or complex/compound needs.
Above all, I strive to create a compassionate and non-judgmental space where the person accessing support feels empowered to explore their experiences and work toward meaningful change.
Practice description
In my practice, I provide one-to-one counselling, helping people navigate issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and addiction. My approach is trauma-informed, ensuring the person in front of me feels safe, heard, and supported. I use a range of evidence-based techniques, including Motivational Interviewing, Transactional Analysis, DBT tools, and psychoeducation. My work is rooted in person-centred principles while incorporating elements of psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, systemic therapy, Metacognitive Therapy, CBT, and DBT.
My first session
An initial introductory appointment over the phone or online to discuss what you need, and an opportunity for you to meet me and see whether you feel we can work together. In this appointment we can explore the boundaries the therapy would take place in, and what I can offer. It's a chance for you to ask any questions, get clarification, or voice concerns.
Following this the first appointment can be arranged; I endeavor to provide a warm, secure space to explore recent or ongoing issues, led by the individual accessing support. My part will be largely calm and interested, nonjudgemental enquiry, and reflections to ensure I'm understanding. As our work progresses, we may incorporate tools and techniques from different modalities to unpack the significant items, but the onus will be on you to make decisions.
The initial assessment is free; subsequent sessions (50 minutes) are provided for £60.
For individuals on a low income, sessions are offered on a sliding scale which can be discussed at assessment.
