About me and my therapy practice

My name is Heather and I am a qualified therapist with a PGDip in Integrative Counselling. I offer a humanistic and relational approach, but what does that mean?

I am humanistic, which means I believe that you are the expert in your own life, you have the potential for growth and change, but sometimes we just need a supportive hand to guide us.

I am relational, which means that we are shaped by the relationships that we have throughout our lives, from beginning to end. Understanding the impact of these relationships can help you to understand the person that you have become today.

I am also Integrative, which means I work in a flexible, collaborative way. I use a range of techniques to suit you.

Practice description

As well as private therapy, I also work for a mental health charity, which has allowed me to experience many of the following issues with the clients that I work with. I am experienced in running groups around these topics, and have also had training to develop my skills. My specialised areas of work are:

Family issues, Trauma Bonding and Attachment: The relationships that we have throughout our lives, from the day that we are born, impact our attachment. Talking through your life journey can support you to understand yourself, and to heal.

Self Worth: I use a Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) approach to explore your 'inner critic'. This will help you to understand your thoughts and develop a more understanding internal dialogue.

Supporting Survivors of Domestic Abuse: Exploring the impact of abuse, and removing the blame, shame and anxiety involved in being a survivor. I also offer a programme of work around understanding perpetrator behaviours.

Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships: You may struggle to recognise 'red flags' and 'green flags' in relationships. You may struggle with boundaries and feel that they may often be overstepped.
