About me and my therapy practice
I am pleased to offer therapy with horses at a calm and peaceful location on the outskirts of Northwich.
For over 10 years I have worked as an equine (horse) trainer, working closely with both horse and their owner overcome problems they may be facing. Through having a thorough understanding of how horses think and what they tell us through non-verbal communication, it has shown me how incredibly insightful horses can be for helping people. It is said ‘the horse is a mirror to our soul’, meaning we can find the greatest insight about ourselves by looking inwards.
Horses are highly intuitive and can sense the smallest of changes in their environment and from the people around them. Horses are non-judgemental and offer these reflections as a way to help us become more self-aware.
Since the days of training horses, I have become a person-centred counsellor which has further complimented my way of helping people.
My approach is rooted in empathy, respect, and understanding, ensuring that you feel heard, valued, and supported throughout your therapeutic journey. I believe this can be achieved by adopting the The Person-Centred approach which is grounded in the belief that every individual has the capacity for self-healing and personal growth when they are provided with a supportive, understanding environment. This is what I aim to provide for you.
Practice description
I can offer therapy which is based outdoors amongst the setting of horses, with the horses included in the session or just present.
I can also offer outdoor therapy where the session would take place during a peaceful walk throughout the countryside.
Alternatively, indoor 1-2-1 therapy is something which can also be provided.
I am based at my own horse stables in a quiet and beautiful location on the outskirts of Northwich.
There is parking on site, a toilet and hand washing facilities.
I can also provide tea, coffee and water.
My first session
The first session is an important part of our collaborative therapeutic journey together. It gives yourself the opportunity to share your motivations for seeking therapy, what problems you may be facing, both past and present, and what you would like to gain from therapy.
It also gives you the opportunity to ask myself any questions you may have about the therapeutic process and the approach involved.
A key part of this process would be to discuss our working agreement and the safety regarding being around horses.
This would set a solid foundation to build on for our therapeutic journey ahead.
