About me and my therapy practice
There are many reasons you may be looking for a therapist, and no 鈥渞ight reason鈥 to seek help.
You may have specific aims for your therapy, or you may not be sure why life or certain relationships are feeling challenging at the moment. You may find the past is making the present difficult to manage. Perhaps you want a space where you can talk and be heard.
Whatever brings you to my room, I welcome you into a safe, empathetic and collaborative space where we can explore your challenges and create change so your life outside the room is more fulfilling.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I trained in (and continue to learn from) various therapeutic approaches. I adapt these to suit your specific needs and experiences, as well as what you would like to get out of therapy. The foundation of my work is the therapeutic relationship: I bring respect, curiosity, and care to my focus on alleviating your unique suffering.
Drawing on psychodynamic theories means I am interested in your past experiences as well as what happens between us in the here-and-now. Being trauma-informed means I pay attention to how overwhelming experiences stick around, including in the body. Working with attachment models means I am interested in how relationships shape your world. I may also include mindfulness practices in our work, and I enjoy working creatively.
I often work with people grappling with anxiety, obsessive behaviours or low mood. Many of my clients come with questions around some aspect of their identity or relationships. Many are at a crossroads, navigating a major life change, or have experienced a bereavement.
I am sensitive to the interplay between wider social context and emotional wellbeing, and my practice is LGBTQ+ affirmative. I also have extensive experience working with clients from the global majority.
Practice description
I am a registered member of both the U.K. Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (网爆门). I abide by their codes of ethics and professional practice, and work responsibly according to regulatory standards. I hold full professional liability insurance.
In addition to my years in private practice, I have experience providing low-cost counselling to communities in North London, and being part of a multi-disciplinary NHS mental health team focused on personality disorders. I am also a member of the assessment team for a local counselling charity.
Following six years of training, I obtained an MSc and a Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy from the Metanoia Institute, one of the leading centres in the U.K. Before that, I studied Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at The Minster Centre.
My practice and work continue to evolve. To support this dynamic process, I participate in a range of Continuing Professional Development activities, encompassing the latest developments and research in the field. Recently, this has included trainings in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed somatic work. My work also receives regular clinical supervision from a senior colleague.
Previously, my curiosity about our inner worlds, struggles and motivations led me to work in arts journalism for more than a decade. I stay up-to-date with the cultural fields and art-making, and I enjoy bringing creativity to my work with clients.
I have many years of experience in my own personal therapy, both in individual and group settings, and know first-hand how transformative this work can be.
My first session
First we can meet on a free, 20-minute call, to see how we might work together.
Once we have decided to move forward, our first session will be a consultation session, in which I will learn more about your background, and what you hope to gain from therapy. This is charged at the usual fee.
Sessions are 50 minutes long, and at the same time and place each week.
