About me and my therapy practice
Do you struggle with change? Are endings difficult for you or do you find it hard to move on? Is life not turned out as you hoped or planned? Many of us have periods in our lives when stress or feelings of vulnerability can be overwhelming and it can help to have someone to talk to. I am an experienced person-centred counsellor providing confidential support to people experiencing a range of issues including, but not limited to, loss, anxiety and depression.
Although we usually associate grief with the death of a loved one, there are other endings that can feel significant to us. Relationship break-up, redundancy, retirement, moving home, ill-health, worries about getting older can also be profound losses. These can trigger similar feelings of grief and they force us into a changed personal world. They often uncover hurt, disappointment, anger about the past and can lead to enhanced anxiety about the future. If such feelings are getting in the way for you, then I can help.
If you are going through the bereavement of a loved one, counselling can help you process your feelings. Sometimes the grief can feel intolerable, like a cloud of depression, causing intense emotional and physical pain. Or sometimes there is a lower level sense of sadness or low mood but is a feeling which nonetheless lingers. However you are experiencing your grief, you don’t have to go through such difficult times on your own.
It may be one particular issue that leads you to consider therapy, or you could be feeling stuck or confused in the midst of a range of issues. As a person-centred counsellor, I can support you in gaining clarity around your situation. Sharing your thoughts and feelings in a calm, confidential, non-judgmental environment can help you unburden yourself. Reaching out for support is the first step.
Practice description
I work from my counselling studio which in the village of Buckden, 3 miles outside St Neots. It is a quiet, self-contained and fully accessible space. I offer face-to-face, online and telephone sessions during the day and some evenings. I also offer walk n’ talk therapy if you prefer a less formal setting.
My first session
I offer a free 15 minute introductory chat by phone as a way of making initial contact, discussing your needs and expectations of counselling and seeing if this is a right fit for you. If we decide to go ahead, sessions are weekly, lasting 50 minutes each. Counselling can be short or long-term depending on your need with our work together being reviewed regularly.
