About me and my therapy practice
I'm Sarah and I am a different kind of counselling psychotherapist, life coach, mental illness specialist, couples/relationship therapist, children & young people counsellor, sex and kink/BDSM therapist.
I offer my own style of counselling and coaching, which is realistic, open minded, challenging, but always adapted to you. I like to go above and beyond for all of my clients.
I aim to help my clients empower themselves!
I offer different perspectives and outside the box thinking through my life experiences, neurodivergence, and continued training.
I have worked as a carer, support worker, kink/fetish facilitator, relationship/couples therapist, and mentor.
I fully support our LGBTQIA community and all Pride events. I'm also a passionate transgender ally!
I regularly attend transgender and crossdresser groups to support everyone who attends.
I truly empathise with clients struggles due to my own life experiences.
I have faced adverse child experiences, sexual abuse, patterns of abusive relationships, grief, and my own mental health struggles.
I was diagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD/BPD). I have worked hard to understand and manage this. I fight hard to change the stigma attached to this misunderstood disorder.
I also have a good understanding and experience of working with DID, ODD, psychosis, bipolar, and schizophrenia.
I work with trauma, PTSD/CPTSD, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, childhood trauma/neglect, mental illnesses, particularly EUPD/BPD, and DID.
I have experience working with gender identity, sexual identity, relationship struggles, sexuality, sexual issues, crossdressing, neurodivergence, kink, fetishism, and BDSM.
I also offer life coaching where I can help you find solutions to whatever problems you are facing.
I help with job and employment struggles, career changes, and CV's.
I offer support with benefit forms, budgeting, and household issues.
Practice description
I offer in person sessions using my comfortable counselling room in Yatton and therapy rooms on Whiteladies Road, Bristol.
Sessions are usually an hour long, but additional time can be offered when needed.
Our first session may be longer than an hour to give you the time to feel comfortable and tell me everything you'd like me to know about yourself and situation.
Sessions are available face to face, online, over the phone, as well as walk & talk.
I happily support clients in-between sessions through messages, and over the phone.
Our sessions can be a blend of any of the above.
I am also able to offer single session therapy for times when you may need to off load or to help you decide if counselling is right for you.
During the time we spend together, I will ask questions and build a picture of the difficulties you are facing. Think of it as a friendly chat where you are in control of the subject. Together, we will uncover the reasons you are struggling.
If you decide I am the right therapist for you, we will then work on these issues using different approaches suited to your needs.
The aim of therapy sessions with me is to help you understand and accept yourself and those around you.
I will challenge your thoughts and behaviours to improve your life and relationships. I will offer coping skills, when appropriate, and support you throughout our time together.
I will often offer you different perspectives and insights to give you lots to think about in between seasions!
I believe in psychoeducation to help my clients understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This also helps them to understand people in their lives and improve their relationships.
I integrate different approaches for individually tailored therapy specific to your needs.
I work with couples as individuals and together in sessions. I do so without bias, pre-judgment, or agenda, having everyone's best interest at heart.
We are all unique and deserve to be treated as such!
My first session
The first session we spend together gives us both the opportunity to get to know one another.
It is really important to me that you feel comfortable, at ease, and that I am the right therapist for you.
The first session can last longer than an hour. I like to make sure you have the time to tell me about yourself and for us to get to know one another.
I encourage my clients to ask me questions about myself, therapy, how I work, and anything else they would like to know!
It is a two way therapeutic relationship in which I want you to feel safe, heard, and understood.
Confidentiality is foremost so what you tell me in sessions stays there.
I am very open-minded and offer a safe, accepting, non-judgemental space.
There is nothing you can bring to sessions that will shock me or that is off limits. Try me!
I have fidget toys available, a comfortable sofa, and you are free to move around.
I encourage clients to feel relaxed and at home in my therapy room.
If you require additional items to help you express yourself or feel more relaxed, please let me know. Anything you are uncomfortable with in my room, can be removed.
Additionally, if you would like to bring anything with you that might help you in sessions, please discuss these with me.
