About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Laura, the founder of Bettyoucan, a counselling and coaching service.
My practice is designed to offer a warm, welcoming atmosphere to allow you to explore the issues that are bringing you to therapy, as well as anything that is affecting your day to day life.
Whether you are seeking therapy for a specific reason or you are struggling to feel like yourself, I use person-centred therapy and therapeutic coaching, with other potential integrations where necessary, to enable you to explore what you need to and empower you to be your true authentic self. Each person is an individual with their own specific story and so our sessions will be based around what you need and want to gain from therapy.
I offer a 15minute video/phone consultation or a slightly longer face to face meet and great to briefly discuss what you are looking for in therapy, answer any questions you have about how I work and to get to know each other so we can assess if we would be a good fit.
Our sessions can be held in person at my counselling suite in Leigh or online via video chat. Phone sessions are also an option but I would recommend video or in person if possible.
Please feel free to get in touch to arrange your free consultation, or ask any questions you may have.
Practice description
I offer person centred therapy and therapeutic coaching , should coaching be beneficial to you.
The sessions are primarily built around what you bring on the day, however if you have a specific reason for attending therapy we can have more focused topics for the hour to stay in alignment with what brought you here in the first place.
Sessions are ongoing with no maximum amount offered. However I will schedule in moments to check in and reflect on whether we are coming to an end or if there is need for more session. This allows us to ensure we are utilising the sessions effectively and not just using them as a crutch. Sessions are flexible and can be adjust to best meet your needs - for instance if we begin with weekly sessions and then move to fortnightly or visa versa this is more than fine.
My first session
I offer an introductory call via phone or video, or a meet and greet for face to face clients. This is an opportunity for us both to see if we would be a good match to work together.
If we both agree it is a good match, for our fist session, we will run through a contract of what our sessions will look like going forwards, what we expect from each other and any logistics that might need addressing. There will also be a couple of questionnaires so I can get a better understanding of where you're at and if there is anything specific I need to be made aware of. However, we can also touch on this in our introductory call if you feel it is important to mention.
We will then use the rest of our time as needed; most likely heading into what brought you to therapy but being mindful of the time we have left for this introductory session.
We may allocate some "review" sessions where we run through a review sheet and check in with one another around how you feel the sessions are going, but for the most part the rest of the sessions will be full therapeutic hours (50minutes).

About me and my therapy practice
Do you struggle to feel good enough? Are you constantly using your body as a punching bag and pull yourself apart when you look in the mirror?
It is my passion as a therapeutic coach to help people live happier, healthier lives as their true authentic self.
I am a qualified personal trainer, strength and conditioning coach and counsellor and psychotherapist. I have certificates in nutrition, mental health and behaviour change. And I aim to provide a space for my clients to unpick the unhelpful/harmful habits and beliefs that are causing them to live a life filled with distress.
You can have a fat loss or aesthetic-based goal and still have a good relationship with food and your body. But you will never be satisfied with your body if you don't address and work on your body image and relationship to food and exercise, no matter how close you get to your "ideal body".
As a coach I will work with you to break free from the yo-yo diets, the "binge-restrict" cycles and the harmful narrative that your worth is somehow defined by your weight. It is not.
You will learn how to appreciate, care for and respect both yourself and your body in a way that aligns with your goals but keeps your health and happiness as a priority.
There will most likely be a lot of unlearning to do during this process and change doesn't happen over night, but it is my passion to help you to realise your worth and to forge a life that makes you happy to get up in a morning.
I look forward to going on this journey with you.
Practice description
I offer therapeutic coaching to build a better body image, relationship to food and exercise, increase self-worth/esteem and move towards your individual goals.
This service is offered as both a pay as you go or as a monthly commitment where you receive check ins and support outside of sessions.
I combine my expertise as both a coach and a therapist to focus on the different parts at play. Habits are important to create change, but deeper work is integral to allow you to make the change long lasting. This way of working will allow you to step off the hamster wheel once and for all and actually learn to enjoy your life.
Connection to self is an important ingredient and so we will work to unpick and challenge your self-beliefs and the stories you tell yourself, and learn to tap into compassionate curiosity rather than waiting criticism and judgement religiously for breakfast.
This will always be a collaborative experience and whilst I will challenge you and offer suggestions/input, you will be the one in the drivers seat. The sessions will be catered to you as an individual as well as to your individual goals.
My first session
Within our first session we will set up a contract to establish how our sessions will run and to ensure all the logistics are clearly understood.
We will utilise this session to explore your goals and motives as well as getting to know what has brought you to this point. And begin to create our bespoke plan to move you towards your end goal.
