About me and my therapy practice

It's ok to not know where to begin, what you are looking for, what you need, what your next steps are, or what you will achieve - nothing is permanent. No one knows what your journey looks like, that is yet to be discovered and is always unfolding. With the skills, knowledge and experience of the right counsellor/therapist for you - you will have the support you need in writing the next pages in your story and discover what your journey looks like for your self!

As with all relationships, therapeutic relationships are not one size fit all. People come to counselling/psychotherapy for their own unique reasons and that is what I work with, you as a unique person and client. Each client has their individual needs and purpose for working with a therapist and that is what I aim to fulfil for you.

My work focuses primarily on the therapeutic relationship itself and developing / working at relational depth. In that space we can explore and work together with whatever presents itself, whether that is; what brought you to therapy; unpacking and exploring who you are as a person today; where you are in life; treading the path together on your journey through life's challenges; healing, growing and developing into all of who you are and can be; or whatever else it is you need from therapy.

Practice description

The foundation of my work is humanistic / person-centred and also trauma informed.

I have extensive experience working with adults, children and young people, including those who are vulnerable or at risk.

I have an up to date Enhanced DBS Check and in depth / extensive Safeguarding and Child Protection certifications.

I have worked in a variety or settings, including schools, hospices, voluntary sector, crisis support, and private practice (Face to face, online and outdoors).

I started introductory training in 2010, practicing as a counsellor in 2012 and graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2016, gaining a First Class with Honours degree in BA (Hons) Humanistic Counselling Practice.  Since then I have continued to engage in a wide and diverse range of Continuing Professional Development courses and gain real world experience.

I am always mindful of my core values, morals and ethics and in particular beneficence. I believe that while, skills, modalities/approaches, knowledge and experience form crucial parts of therapeutic practice, the most fundamental part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. For me that means the right person and the right time. To that end our work together may be for a short time, or for a long time. It may also mean that while we are a good fit for each other now, we may discover over time your needs change and are then better met elsewhere. It may be that we end our work and you decide to come back again at a later date, not all processes are a straight line and my door is always left open to you.

My first session

Before our first session I will ask you for some personal details so I can create a record for you. These will be stored securely in line with my GDPR compliant privacy policy.

During our first session we will explore your presenting issue(s), what it is you are looking for from our work and our commitments to each other, including the confidentiality of our work.

I am happy to have a brief initial conversation (10 - 15 mins) before our first session to decide if we are the right fit for each other.
