About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Oscar Trenchard and I would like to warmly welcome you to my counselling profile. Seeking support when you are struggling can be very challenging so I want to appreciate the time you are taking to look into seeking support for yourself. As a counsellor, I work with people of all ages including teenagers and young adults and I have experience offering support to people struggling with a range of issues including substance and behavioural addictions, relationship issues, anxiety and depression.Through training and personal experience, I believe that counselling can be beneficial to anyone. However, counselling is a very personal experience and each person will enter counselling with different goals and find different ways in which they achieve those goals. My intention with every client is to build a relationship in which I support them without judgement in strengthening an understanding of themselves so they can make informed and conscious decisions that can benefit their lives.
Practice description
As a humanistic counsellor, my work is grounded in the theories of Person Centred, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt therapies. My integrated approach involves firstly helping a client explore what challenges they are facing with open questions and empathic reflections which help the client feel like I truly understand what is going on for them without judgement. Once we have built an understanding together, I may start to offer insights into patterns of behaviour or feeling that I have noticed the client mention so that they can become more aware of them. I also may start to offer reflections of body postures or physical expressions that I notice so that the client may get a more hollistic view of how they are experiencing their emotions. As both myself and the client build a deeper understanding of what experiences they have been through and how these experiences express themselves in the client's behaviour and feelings, we can start to develop ideas for action that could be taken to bring about positive change in the client's life. The most important part of my approach is that it is based on the principle of the client being the expert on themselves which means that I will engage with each client as an individual and work with them at their pace through the counselling process.
My first session
Finding a counsellor you feel comfortable with is the most important step in starting counselling, as a good counselling relationship is a key element in achieving positive outcomes in therapy. For this reason, I offer a free 15 minute remote consultation so you have a chance to assess whether you would like to work with me as your counsellor. If you feel you would like to work with me, we can then arrange a first session during which we can build a therapeutic contract and start to explore what might be bringing you to counselling and what goals you may want to work towards.
