Availability
I work flexibly and mostly online.
I don't have a one-size fits all model of session length, or number of sessions. We can agree to a structure that will work best for you, and adapt this over time if we need to.
My availability does vary, but generally availability will be Mondays, weekday evenings and Saturdays.
At the moment my face to face work is through a charity and I don't have my own premises. If you are looking for someone to provide support via an organisation (for example workplace employee assistance, higher education establishment, charity) I would be able to provide face to face support on site at your premises. Contact me for details.
About me and my therapy practice
I'm Sarah and I provide counselling and coaching for clients who are looking to understand where they are right now, identify where they would like to be and undertake that journey from "here" to "there". I combine appropriate approaches from different types of therapy and coaching to suit your needs. I'm experienced at working with trauma (including complex PTSD) and neurodivergence, and I am neurodivergent myself.
I'm can work in British Sign Language if needed - I am a qualified BSL interpreter.
Because I work integratively and can combine counselling and coaching, we can look at the past, present and future together and we can work with processing emotions as well as making practical plans of action.
For clients looking for career based/executive type coaching I have many years experience in business and corporate environments before working as an interpreter and counsellor. I have broad experience of working within the arts and understand the context and demands of freelancers and creatives in that industry.
In addition to my coaching and therapy practice I am a qualified supervisor providing support for professionals in client facing service user type roles (interpreters, social care, educators, charity workers, health workers).
Practice description
I'm a "coach therapist practitioner" or integrative counsellor and coach. This means that I've been trained in various different approaches to counselling and different models of coaching.
To tie this all together I work with a specific process model that enables both me and you to know where we are in the therapeutic journey. This helps me suggest possible approaches or resources that could be beneficial based on where we are in that journey:
-are we working more with building the relationship and understanding where you are,
-are we looking at past experiences, processing them and resolving inner conflicts,
-are we in a proactive stage where we look at solutions and future goals
-are we making sense of your journey, and ensuring that you have the right support for when you finish this phase of therapy.
My way of working is client centred, which means that a lot of what we do will be supporting you to identify your own goals, generate your own options of how to move towards these and following your instincts. I will be able to walk alongside you, and at times may be able to suggest resources or things we can try that might help - but you will always have control over whether we do that.
My way of working is highly collaborative - if I am suggesting a direction of discussion, or an activity that I think could be beneficial, I will be open and transparent about what it is and why I've suggested it. You will be in control of whether you want to try anything I suggest and the process will be focused on what you want from therapy, not what I think therapy should accomplish for you or any client.
I have a lot of experience working with clients who have traumatic experiences which are impacting their daily life and working to support them in reducing that impact. I also have a lot of experience of neurodivergence and can adapt how we work together to meet your needs if you are neurodivergent.
At the moment my private practice work is all online.
My first session
I usually suggest a short (15/20 minute) video call (I use zoom) as a first contact. In this call we will go through contracting (which includes things like cost, how often we meet, confidentiality and safeguarding). This is free of charge but any sessions after that will be charged at the fee agreed.
I recommend this initial call whether you are looking to book short or long term work and whether you are interested in coaching, counselling or coaching/therapeutic combined approach.
