About me and my therapy practice
Welcome. Reaching out for support during times of difficulty or to address issues from the past can feel extremely daunting. And yet, life can sometimes challenge our ability to cope and to live as we would like. Seeking support during such times is both understandable and healthy and an important first step towards positive change. Whatever concerns or burdens you are carrying, as your Counsellor I will be alongside you supporting you on your personal journey.
I'm Nadine, an experienced Íø±¬ÃÅ registered Counsellor and Psychologist in Bath. I have a 30-year background working in other helping professions as an NHS Midwife, a Business Psychologist, and as a Coach/Mentor including for the Prince's Trust.
I can offer you a warm, compassionate, and holding environment, where you are at the very heart of our therapeutic relationship. Together we will find a path forward that feels just right for you. I will meet you without judgment and be fully accepting of who you truly are. Within this safe space, where you can feel seen and heard, I will help you make sense of your experience, work through difficult feelings and situations, and reduce your distress. I will collaborate with you, opening the door to growth, resilience, and simply to a life that feels clearer, safer, and more meaningful.
What I can help with
I can support you with a broad range of issues and whilst I have a special interest in trauma/(C)PTSD, anxiety, and pregnancy-related difficulties, I also work extensively with clients suffering from depression, low self-esteem, loss and bereavement, difficult life transitions, relationship problems, clients on the Autism spectrum, and clients with ADHD. This list is not exhaustive and please do reach out if you would like to know how I can help you personally.
Please also reach out if you are not certain what is really troubling you. Perhaps something in your life just doesn't feel quite right. All your concerns are valid and I can help you explore these.
Practice description
I work one-to-one with adults (18+) including vulnerable adults (current clear DBS check). I offer face-to-face, online, and walk-and-talk sessions. I have some limited availability for home visits.
My approach to therapy is 'humanistic-integrative', which means quite a few things but most and foremost, it means that you are at the heart of the therapeutic process and that I will work with you to build a relationship based on trust, safety, genuine connection, and acceptance. It means that we will walk at your pace and use a number of therapeutic methods that are just right for you, reflecting the unique person that you are. It also means that our work will make you feel seen, heard, understood, and unconditionally valued. Ultimately, it means that you will experience healing and growth, achieving greater resilience and empowerment so that you can find your own way forward in life.
I will meet you with warmth and compassion whilst helping you to safely explore your inner and outer world experiences. I will be alongside you when you process difficult feelings or unresolved issues, or when you are facing challenging situations. I will listen to you with unconditional acceptance and will support you by providing different perspectives, gentle challenge, and psychoeducation in order to empower you. In part, this process can facilitate your awareness of underlying patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours which may have become unhelpful and which you may choose to let go of.
The specific theoretical models I draw upon in my work as a therapist include trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, psychodynamic theory, person-centred work, somatic therapy, and parts-work. This list is not exhaustive and again please email me if you would like to know more or perhaps you would prefer to visit my website at https://www.nadinebenncounselling.com/
My first session
To start you on your journey, I offer a free initial 15-minute phone consultation which is a good opportunity for us to get a better sense of each other, for you to ask me any questions you may have and for me to understand your therapy need in more detail.
If, following that introductory call, we decide that we could be a good match and could work together, we will book in our first full 50-minute session. During this initial session, I will gather some background information that helps me understand you better and you will have the opportunity to expand on what brings you to therapy and tell me a little bit more about what you are hoping to achieve. If, however, your reason for coming to therapy aren't all that clear yet, that's okay, too, and we will work together from session to session in order to help you unpack this and understand your goals.
