About me and my therapy practice
I work from a classical person-centred perspective, which means I come to the therapeutic relationship as myself, with all my individuality and human vulnerabilities. I do not hide behind a professional veneer. In doing so, my hope is that we can build an honest, trusting and sincere relationship in which you can explore your life at your own pace, in your own way.
As we go forward, I will do my best to understand you and your experiences, sharing my understanding so that you might, in turn, gain a greater awareness of yourself. In time, this growing awareness of your patterns, reactions, thoughts and feelings will help you better understand how you relate to yourself and others.
My experience tells me that knowing yourself gives you a greater sense of power and stability, which can result in positive change and bring you more into control of your life. In our relationship I will be open and honest but never judgemental or unkind. I will welcome and respect every part of you and your history that you choose to share in our sessions.
About Me
I’m Íø±¬ÃÅ-registered, person-centred counsellor experienced in supporting people with a wide range of issues including anxiety, low mood, emotional dysregulation, relationship difficulties, addiction, loneliness, post-traumatic stress and bereavement.
I welcome all clients but have a particular interest in clients facing the significant and complex consequences of childhood neglect/abuse (CPTSD), such as low self-esteem, anxiety, shame, loneliness, lack of identity, difficulty in relationships, addictions and emotional dysregulation.
Beyond my private practice, I volunteer as a counsellor at a community health project based in the west of Edinburgh, supporting a range of clients on a weekly basis.
In my previous life I worked as a freelance Pensions Analyst for Aviva, Standard Life and Clerical Medical amongst others across the UK.
Practice description
I work in person at the Edinburgh Wellbeing Collective located in Charlotte House near Charlotte Square in central Edinburgh. It’s a 5 min walk to Princes Street. 15 mins to Waverley or Haymarket stations.
Sessions are usually weekly and last for 60 mins.
I am committed to the continuous professional development of my practice to ensure you receive a safe and professional service. I have completed trainings in trauma, mental health first aid and workshops to deepen my person-centred practice.
I also undertake regular supervision as required by my professional governing body and to ensure a safe working practice.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to know more, have any questions or would like to book a session.
My first session
I know from personal experience that finding the right therapist is vital and can take some time. I offer a full first session at £25 so that you can get a sense of me and how we might work together. At this stage there is no obligation to carry on, but we might find some time at the end of the session to get a sense of what is possible.
I'm also happy to have a shorter chat in person or on the phone if you have any questions and/or want to get an idea of how I work.
