About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Jess. I'm a friendly and down-to-earth therapist helping people to navigate psychological distress. I have extensive experience working in an NHS GP practice, and my therapeutic approach is guided by scientifically validated, peer-reviewed research.
Whether you’re feeling weighed down by hopelessness, drained from battling something you know needs attention, or finding it hard to see your own worth, I’m here to help. I have experience working with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and those deep dives into past experiences that can still affect you today.
I work within The Grove Practice: Ilkley's leading practice for Counselling and Psychotherapy professionals, providing high standards of therapy within a warm and welcoming environment.
I see clients face to face on Thursdays and Fridays. The practice (next to Bettys, upstairs) holds several custom-built therapy rooms, beautifully furnished to an exceptionally high standard and has a discreet entrance at the back of the building. It is close to public transport links, on-street parking, and a large public car park just metres away.
How can I help?
Here’s what I do to help. We sit down together in a relaxed and informal session for an in-depth conversation, with the opportunity for weekly follow-up sessions. Whatever is going on – whether you’re stressed, feeling low or feeling anxious – I can help you feel less overwhelmed and tangled up.
It’s okay if you’re not sure where to start or what to say. You can take things at your own pace. I’m engaged and responsive in our sessions - I won’t just sit back and nod, but will be right there with you in the conversation.
Practice description
My approach
My practice is influenced by my own lived experiences, including my training in relational integrative psychotherapy, my interest in psychology, philosophy, and overcoming my own personal challenges.
My aim is to really understand what life is like for you. I might ask gentle questions or share reflections that can help you explore your experiences more deeply and get to know yourself better. If it feels useful, I may also share my perspective or offer another way of looking at things, drawing on different psychotherapeutic theories.
I’ll regularly check in with you to see how you’re feeling about the therapy process, and to make sure our conversations are heading in a way that feels right for you. Above all, I’ll be here to listen with kindness and care, welcoming and accepting every part of you.
I’m committed to creating an inclusive, respectful space for everyone, regardless of beliefs, background, gender, or identity. My approach is neurodiversity-affirming, and I have experience adapting therapy to support a range of sensory and processing needs.
My first session
Booking in and first session
The first step is to book a free 10-minute consultation via video or telephone call (your preference – both work well). To do this, please feel free to contact me in a way that is most comfortable for you; either by phone, text, or email. You can expect to receive a warm and friendly response.
The consultation will give you the chance to work out whether I’m the right therapist for you, and for me to ensure I’m qualified to work with the issues you’re dealing with.
After this, if you’d like to go ahead, we can book your first session. There is no obligation to book a certain number of sessions and you can stop at any time. After booking, I’ll email you my contract (containing details such as confidentiality, fees, and cancellation policy) along with full details of how to locate my address, plus - if you'd like - a video clip of how to find the entrance. There are two flights of stairs that lead up to the counselling rooms.
Until the time your session starts, you can rest in the waiting area which has comfortable chairs, tea and coffee facilities and a toilet next door. When it’s time to start you can expect a warm and smiley hello from me and I’ll be ensuring everything feels as soothing and comfortable as possible before we settle down and begin.
