About me and my therapy practice

Life can be hard to deal with, but you don't have to do it on your own. I offer a safe, supportive, and confidential space where you can talk openly and feel truly heard without judgement.

Therapy is a space for reflection, growth and moments of joy as well as challenges. We’ll work together at your pace, exploring what you want to change, and helping you work out your own best ways to get there, with trust, understanding and openness.

My experience includes helping people affected by childhood trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, grief, suicidal thoughts, sexual assault, relationship difficulties, neuro-divergent diagnoses, experiences in care and adoption, questions about identity and confusion about how to be yourself in the world.

Reaching out for help can be hard, but I’d hope to make the process as easy as possible. I offer a free 20 minute phone call to see if it feels like working together could be a good fit, and if you want to, move on to arranging an introductory session.

I am qualified and Íø±¬ÃÅ registered, and work in Plymouth or online. I began working in therapeutic settings in psychodynamic therapeutic communities in 1994, and completed my most recent training in 2024. I think continuous training and development is essential for a therapist, and am currently studying for a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice.

Practice description

I offer regular, hourly sessions, face to face near Plymouth city centre or online.

I'm an integrative counsellor, using mainly an existential approach informed by psychodynamic ideas. This means the relationship we make is central, and therapy is a kind of exploring together, led by you, of what you want to change, how life brings you here and how you want to grow. Working like this, you gain awareness and control and make more fulfilling relationships with yourself and others.

Inclusivity is at the heart of my practice. I strive to be race and culturally aware, am LGBTQIA+ allied, neuro-affirming, and often work with those with neurodivergent diagnoses.

My first session

The first session is an hour, and can be face to face or online, whichever is easier. It is a kind of therapeutic consultation, which gives us a chance to meet each other and see how it would feel to work together, for us to talk about what brings you to therapy, what you'd like to work on and what your hopes are.

It is also a time to talk through the ethical aspects of therapy, including confidentiality, give space to ask any questions you may have and, if it feels right, to agree how we would work together.

I understand that going to see a therapist and checking out whether you would like to work with them is a big step. If you chose to contact me I'd be very happy to hear from you.

I charge £25 for this session.
