About me and my therapy practice
Hello,
I'm Mariyam. I am a qualified counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MÍø±¬ÃÅ). I create a warm, empathetic space where you can feel truly seen, heard, and understood. My approach centres on building a genuine human connection where every part of your story matters and where you can safely explore your emotions and challenges without judgment.
I hold a BSc in Clinical Psychology and an MSc in Counselling and Positive Psychology. My practice blends person-centred counselling with positive psychology frameworks, tailored specifically to your unique needs and circumstances. Together, we'll create a therapeutic relationship where you feel truly recognised for who you are, not just your struggles, but your strengths, values, and aspirations.
With experience supporting both young people and adults through community counselling services, I understand the various ways life's challenges can manifest across different life stages and cultural contexts. Throughout our work together, my priority is ensuring you feel deeply listened to and that your experiences are validated. I provide gentle challenges to support you in reaching your therapeutic goal.
My multicultural background allows me to work sensitively with clients from diverse cultural experiences, helping bridge gaps between traditional values and modern pressures while ensuring you feel completely acknowledged in your unique experience.
Practice description
I offer a free 15-minute introductory call to discuss your therapeutic goals and how I can support you.
If you decide to proceed with the sessions, then I offer 10 - 12 sessions. The sessions are held weekly and are 50 minutes long.
My first session
I can imagine how daunting it must be to discuss your personal experiences with someone you don't know. I make sure to discuss a counselling contract and what to expect from counselling.
Then we work together to complete two assessment forms, which are short questions to know how you have been feeling over the past two weeks. After this, you are free to talk about whatever has been on your mind.
