About me and my therapy practice
How I work?
Online Therapy
For some people, online counselling or e-therapy can be a good alternative to face to face sessions. It might be that the idea of meeting face to face doesn’t feel right. It might be that you live in a different area, you would struggle to attend face to face appointments or that you would prefer to arrange your therapy around your other commitments.
Online therapy offers you same confidential support as face to face sessions, however it can be done from wherever you are online (at home, abroad, etc). It is an exciting but less ‘traditional’ type of therapy and so I am aware you may have many questions to ask about security, logistics or whether it is appropriate for you. If you do, just get in touch and ask me, I really don’t mind!
Practice description
What to Expect?
You can expect, to be given the time and space to explore the things that you are struggling with in your life. As your thoughts, feelings and experiences are really heard and understood, this can help you to find new perspectives and new meanings.
This part of therapeutic process can be hard work because it can involve looking at things that are deeply painful. It may mean you have to ‘let go’ of old habits and old ways of looking at things as part of a journey of self-discovery. However, as you begin to have a deeper understanding of yourself and your situation, this can also help you to feel clearer about things. From this new perspective, it can feel easier to feel a sense of direction from within, enabling you to make choices and decisions and take charge of your life.
As your therapist, I will aim to be by your side through this process, offering you warmth, support and compassion as you find your unique way of understanding and living your life. I will not have the answers, but will give you the space and gentle challenge, if needed, to find your own answers from within. How long this takes can vary from person to person – you are free to have as many or as few sessions as you feel you need.
My first session
First session?
It's a chance for you to talk about your reasons for coming to therapy and how you hope it is going to help.
Therapy sessions will usually last for 50 minutes and it will give us a chance to get to know each other better, so you can decide if you feel comfortable talking to me and we can talk about how best to support you. We can also discuss any questions or concerns you have, as well as talk about what we think should happen next. If we then start having sessions together, we will usually meet (or exchange messages in the case of online therapy) at the same time each week for a ‘therapeutic hour’. During this time we can talk about whatever you wish, as well as start to work on some of the things you hope to get out of coming to therapy.
