About me and my therapy practice
I'm Katie and my practice is Heartsease Counselling, and I am a trained counsellor with a BSc (hons) degree in integrative counselling.
Looking for a counsellor can be a daunting task, (I know, I have been there!), but I believe that counselling can help you with so many issues, as it has helped me in the past, and can help you to move forwards from whatever is holding you back, whether that is mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, a lack of self confidence or a general feeling of being lost or unfulfilled in life.
Counselling can be invaluable after a bereavement, and I have lots of training in grief and loss, as well as lived experience. The same principles used in bereavement counselling can be helpful following other types of loss, such as a relationship break up or redundancy, and can help you to come to terms with a new reality and to rebuild your future. Sometimes we can lose sight of our true selves and counselling can provide the conditions we need to rediscover who we are and get back to being our authentic selves.
Practice description
I can provide you with a safe, non-judgemental space to explore what is going on for you and support you through the process. My practice is based on Person-Centred principles, which simply means that I believe you are the expert on yourself, and that deep down you know what you need to change, and that the pace and direction of sessions will be led by you. I also use techniques from other counselling modes such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy amongst others, which can give you the practical strategies and interventions to carry what we work on in our sessions through into your everyday life. I like to work creatively where possible, and if you find it easier to talk whilst colouring or using a fidget toy that's just fine.
My first session
I offer a free phone or video consultation for us to get to know each other consultation to get to know each other before you commit to sessions with me. On your first session we will be assessing your situation and looking at what your goals are for counselling.
