About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Emma! I know beginning a counselling journey can be daunting, scary even- lets step through it together. Our space together will be built on trust, safe, secure, and free from judgement where you can be yourself and bring whatever you need to bring. My aim is for you to feel safe, seen, heard and validated. I will sit alongside you to explore whatever it is that you bring into the therapy space.

Everyone experiences life, and it’s curve balls, differently. You may be experiencing different hardships in life and want to work to understand these more deeply: relationship difficulties, abuse, loss, unresolved childhood issues and upbringing, parenthood, feelings of low self-esteem, anxiety, depression or anything and everything in between. Whatever the reason, our work will be centred on you and the outcomes you wish to achieve. I will sit alongside you and hold a space for you to explore and understand those things.

I am an integrative, humanistic counsellor- what this means is that our work together might involve different therapeutic approaches based on your wants and needs. I work relationally and so we can work together to explore the difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are having an effect on you. There are a variety of different techniques taken from different areas of counselling therapies that we could use: person centred therapy, existentialism, gestalt, mindfulness practices, emotion focussed therapy and creativity.

I can work with a wide range of mental health difficulties and am experienced in work with depression, anxiety, loss, substance use, abuse, trauma and the emotional side of physical health difficulties.

Since becoming a qualified counsellor, I have become certified in:

- telephone and online counselling

- Walking/outdoor therapy

- Trauma techniques

- Certified in therapy for pregnancy and infant loss, pregnancy after loss, infertility

- Advanced certified practitioner- infant and baby loss

Practice description

I am a Swansea based counsellor (but am online, so can see you from wherever you are).

It is my personal belief that with the right environment, support and conditions, a person can improve their mental and emotional wellbeing and move forward in a more positive way (whatever that looks like for them). I believe that when this is the case that a person can cultivate skills and techniques to be able to maintain this more optimal state of wellbeing. This makes progress more long lasting and resilience stronger. This means that a person’s interactions and involvement in their own and wider life is enhanced, more present and more authentic. We can look at patterns, personal history, relationships and behaviours together and what these mean to you.

In addition to private counselling sessions I also offer sessional counselling within an organisation. Within this, I work with self-referred clients, clients referred from the work place (EAP- Employment Assistance Programme), project specific clients (bereavement and substance use projects)

I am also a counselling tutor for a local counselling training provider. Tutoring students who are currently in the process of qualifying as a counsellor themselves.

My first session

I know that, for many people, it can be quite scary to start this kind of work with someone, especially if this is your first experience of counselling. As such, I am happy to answer any questions you might have either by email or phone.

In order for you to decide whether you feel we are a suitable fit, I can offer a free introductory 15-minute discussion either by phone, online or face to face. During this session, if you feel you’d like to go ahead, we can discuss how you'd like to proceed and how your sessions might look for you. I also offer concessionary rates subject to discussion

If you feel you would like to book an assessment then we can meet each other and decide whether we can work together. In this case, please feel free to call and make a booking.
