About me and my therapy practice
I am an Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, drawing from various modalities/approaches depending on your needs.
Primarily my approach is person-centred, where together we explore the most comfortable solutions for you. We work to build our therapeutic relationship, from which you recover a sense of stability & trust in your own judgment & instincts. My approach is about creating a safe haven for you to hold and contain whatever is concerning you, to feel heard and understood without judgment. Within this relationship, transformation becomes attainable.
I also draw from the psychodynamic approach, helping you reflect on your early relationships and how they impact and influence your sense of self and your current relationship patterns.
To support our work, I will often suggest some CBT strategies, to identify patterns of behaviour, thought and to manage anxiety, panic and/or stress and depression.
Mindfulness is fundamental to my approach and to many of the modalities I work within. Connecting to yourself is the key to transformation and the practices of breath awareness and self-compassion facilitate this, unveiling your inner resources, leading to self-regulation and self-actualisation.
We will collaborate on finding the best way forward for you, reflecting on our progress regularly and adjusting our strategies, reviewing any goals, and restating intentions as we proceed.
I can support you with addiction, alcohol dependency, abuse, bereavement, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship & family issues, trauma, PTSD & so much more.
Practice description
I have practice rooms in Charing Cross, Glasgow within a quiet building with other therapy rooms. I also offer online sessions via Zoom. We will collaborate on deciding the appropriate number of sessions, usually an initial 6, with a review as we approach 6, deciding to work towards ending or allocating further sessions as required. We will start with an initial assessment of your presenting issues and then work out our approach from there and review as we proceed through the sessions.
My first session
I offer a free initial 20 minute phone consultation.
In our first full session, we will do a more in depth assessment, discussing and identifying your presenting challenge(s). We can identify any goals for therapy, what you hope to achieve. We will cover house-keeping, re times and cancellation policy, ethical practices etc.
Establishing a sense of safety and stability is essential for therapy to proceed, so we may practice some grounding techniques to help you find stability and ease.
