Hello, my name is Cheryl, an Integrative, therapeutic, Psychotherapist/Counsellor.

I work secure online, telephone and in person ie face to face.

My hours of work are flexible and I will try to accommodate an individual's commitments during the following periods:

Monday to Friday 11am - 8pm. My last appointment of the day is 7pm.

Saturday mornings I work 10-1pm, my last session being 12 noon

My rates are £60.00 for 55-60 minutes. Concessions for those on benefits, low income or students at a rate of £35.00 per hour.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an attachment focused, relational, Integrative Psychotherapist/Counsellor offering a wealth of experience, compassion and understanding in a safe space for you to explore, unpick, process, reflect and navigate life’s challenges. The answers you seek will come from within promoting healing and growth.

I am a fully qualified Llb (Hons), Pg Dip LPC, Counselling Cert, Pg Dip Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a member of Íø±¬ÃÅ, ensuring the highest standards of professional care and ethics. I am fully insured with Towergate and GDPR compliant.

As a wife, mother, adoptive parent and retired therapeutic foster parent, I bring a unique wealth of knowledge, personal experience and nearly two decades of professional experience that informs my practice.

I work relationally because evidentially, the closer and therapeutic the alliance, the better the outcomes for the client.

I welcome and embrace difference and diversity. Whilst I can't say I know everything, I am always keen to learn and accept and celebrate everyone for who they are as individuals.

I cannot say how many sessions you may need dependent on the issues brought but often suggest 6 sessions with a review. There is an expectation of openness and honesty in any good therapeutic alliance and offer a safe, compassionate space to allow you to feel comfortable and able to do this.

I offer integrated therapy as a Psychotherapist/Counsellor drawing primarily from person-centred therapy. However, I am also knowledgeable and trained to provide a tailored approach to therapy, integrating, dependent upon individual client needs, concepts or techniques from a whole range of theories in collaboration with my clients' agreement. This could range from Psychodynamic and Attachment focused theory, Compassion Focused, Transactional Analysis - script and PAC work, Inner wounded child work -Internal Family Systems theory, CBTM Somatic, polyvagual and grounding techniques including breathwork and tapping.

Practice description

I believe it is beneficial to clients to share some of my own varied life experiences, challenges & existential life crises, faced and navigated successfully. This can often provide comfort & assurance these issues are not isolated and that they can be overcome.

I work with clients who may be struggling with stress, anxiety, tearfulness, lacking confidence and/or self worth, perfectionism, panic attacks, attachment issues, trauma/PTSD, relationship or family issues.

During initial sessions we will explore the issues, collaborate and create a plan together to address them in a way that helps you get your life back on track. Most clients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within 4-6 weeks and sustained improvement thereafter.

So, for childhood trauma or relationship issues, I would use a person-centred approach to explore the here and now and presenting issues. I would need to be able to experience how a client feels and see through their eyes to understand how they navigate the world around them. I may suggest psychodynamically exploring childhood and looking through an attachment- focused lens at how parenting may have shaped an individual beliefs and values. In addition, what attachment style may have been adopted and whether the ways or relating is proving helpful in adult life. Often awareness, can bring about change and vastly improve and bring a greater understanding, closeness and connectedness to relationships with partners and children.

My first session

Understandably your first session may feel daunting but there is nothing to be concerned about. It is normal. We will get to know each other and discuss the issues you are having and perhaps undertake a little assessment of what goals you wish to make and discuss how they may be achieved.

I would ask that you attend appointments whether face to face or in person or by telephone 5-10 minutes early and that there is no one else present and you are free of interruptions so there can be absolute client confidentiality and a dedicated space just for you.

Sessions will be 55 minutes long.

Video sessions will take place by google meet. Don't worry, if you are not a technical wizard. You do not need to download apps.

I am confident we can achieve your desired goals and you feeling so much more relieved, confident and empowered going forward. I look forward to working with you.

Practice description

I believe the answer is always within you, the client. Often it can be difficult to see the woods for the trees when we are spinning so many plates or run down. Basic functioning is not living.

Clients may struggle with stress, anxiety, low mood or symptoms of attachment and trauma related to childhood relationships or with partners. You may be a Carer or Parent who is burnt or reactive and misunderstanding their child’s communications of need. You may be grieving a loved one. During initial sessions, we will explore the issues, collaborate & create a plan together to address them in a way that helps you understand you and your own identity, the way you relate and behave and get your life back on track.

I am person-centred led and use this way of being and therapy to explore the here and now and presenting issues. I want to experience how you feel, see and experience the world through your eyes to understand how you navigate the world around you. Only then may I tailor therapy to your individual needs by blending in various other concepts, theories or interventions to provide varying perceptions on issues. Exploration, realisation and awareness can bring about significant change and greater improvement of Self. Further, it can bring about renewed closeness and connection with the important people in your life or Boss and colleagues at work, as opposed to disconnection and discord in how we relate with others, our partners and children

I aim to offer you compassionate understanding, safe space, as you navigate your personal challenges, creating awareness, empowering change and decision making.

I may suggest for looking through a psychodynamic and attachment- focused lens exploring childhood. This may help me understand you and any unhelpful ways of relating which may have kept you safe as a child but unhelpful in adult life. Why you may react in the manner you do or how you experience anxiety. Exploration, realisation and awareness can bring about change and greater improvement of Self. Further, it can bring about renewed closeness and connection as opposed to disconnection and discord in how we relate with others, our partners and children

For child/adult trauma, this would be taken at a clients' pace. Undertaking grounding techniques and lifting the lid on trauma gently and for short periods with agreement as we gently build a window of tolerance and stabilisation to reduce symptoms.

I aim to offer you compassionate understanding and a safe space, as you navigate your personal challenges, creating awareness, empowering change and decision making.
