About me and my therapy practice
I am a person-centred counsellor based in Chichester, West Sussex. I have been practicing for 3+ years, with experience working as a volunteer counsellor for the You Trust, where I worked with clients who have experienced domestic abuse and sexual abuse.
I specialise in neurodiversity and abuse, with lived experience and ongoing reading/training in these areas informing my practice.
Whether it is something specific, or more general support you're wanting, this is your space to explore what is troubling you in a safe and nurturing environment. As a person-centred counsellor, I do not direct you on where to go, instead, I walk alongside you, helping you notice the things that may have otherwise been missed. Very often we can shut down curiosity with judgement - many of us have experienced rigid expectations and judgements in life. Counselling can offer a space to develop curiosity again, and form a deeper understanding of who you are and what you need.
Practice description
The person-centred approach
As a person-centred counsellor, I am non-directive, believing everybody has the ability to grow if given the right circumstances for growth to occur. Growth looks different for everybody - it is a personal process of being and becoming who we truly are, underneath all the conditioning. Life can feel full of conditions, full of 'shoulds'. This is why my focus is on creating a space that takes those pressures off, allowing you to explore what feels important while feeling safe and genuinely supported.
Sessions
The duration of therapy can be as short or as long as you need. Each session lasts for 50 minutes and is generally done on a weekly basis to encourage ongoing reflection. Therapy is a collaborative process in which we both work together to get you where you would like to be. Occasionally we will take time to reflect on the journey and where things are going to help us keep going in a direction that feels beneficial to you.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute initial call. This is an opportunity to get to know each other and for you to give an outline on what it is that's bringing you to therapy. On the call we will discuss how we will work together should sessions go ahead.
If it is decided we will work together after this call, our first session will involve completing a short assessment. Don't worry - this sounds worse than it is! I will just ask you a few questions to get to know a bit more about your background and anything else that may be relevant to know for our sessions. This only takes a few minutes and there's no paperwork for you to fill in. Once the assessment is done, it's over to you. You can use the space to explore what feels important at your own pace.
