About me and my therapy practice
Overview of How I Work
My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based. I believe that each client brings their own strengths, experiences, and inner resources, and my role is to help you uncover and build upon them. I work integratively, drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
In practice, this means we work together to understand the links between your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours, exploring how patterns may have developed and how they can be changed. Sessions are structured but always tailored to your needs, focusing on helping you gain insight, build coping skills, and make meaningful, lasting changes.
I aim to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you can feel understood, supported, and gently challenged. My style is active and collaborative 鈥 we might explore experiences from the past that influence how you respond in the present, or work on specific tools and strategies you can use in daily life.
Therapy with me is goal-oriented but paced to suit you. Together, we will identify what matters most to you and use evidence-based techniques to move toward those goals. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, or self-criticism, I aim to help you develop greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and confidence in managing life鈥檚 challenges.
My hope is that therapy not only helps to ease immediate distress but also empowers you with the skills and insight to navigate future difficulties with resilience and self-trust.
Practice description
My practice offers a calm, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. I work with adults and young people aged 16 and above, providing both short- and longer-term therapy depending on your needs. Sessions are collaborative, focused on helping you understand yourself better and develop practical strategies for change.
I specialise in supporting clients experiencing anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, overthinking, and low self-esteem, as well as those struggling with self-criticism or difficulty setting boundaries. Many of my clients describe feeling stuck in patterns of worry, guilt, or self-doubt, and our work focuses on understanding these patterns and learning how to break free from them.
In sessions, you can expect a balance of gentle exploration and practical tools. We might look at the beliefs and habits that maintain distress, develop self-compassion, and work on strategies to help you respond more flexibly to difficult thoughts and emotions. I aim to make therapy feel collaborative, safe, and empowering 鈥 not something that鈥檚 鈥渄one to you,鈥 but a process we work through together.
Whether you are seeking therapy for a specific issue or want to improve your overall wellbeing, my goal is to help you feel more grounded, confident, and able to live in line with your values.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin exploring what has brought you to therapy. I see it as a collaborative conversation rather than a formal assessment 鈥 a space where you can share your story at your own pace and ask any questions about how I work.
During this session, we will talk about what has been troubling you, what you would like to gain from therapy, and what approaches might be most helpful for you. I will also explain how sessions are structured, discuss confidentiality, and agree on some initial goals together. There is no expectation to share everything straight away 鈥 it is completely fine to take your time.
I may ask you to complete a brief assessment or questionnaire, depending on your goals, to help us get a clear understanding of your current experiences and track progress over time.
The first session also gives you a sense of whether my style and approach feel like a good fit for you. Therapy is most effective when you feel comfortable with your therapist, so this session is as much about you getting a feel for how we might work together as it is about me understanding your needs.
If you decide to continue, we will create a plan that suits you 鈥 whether that鈥檚 focused short-term work or ongoing therapy.
I charge the same rate for the first session as for ongoing sessions. However, if you鈥檙e uncertain about starting therapy or would like to discuss your needs beforehand, I offer a brief free consultation (by phone or online) to help you decide if I am the right therapist for you.
