About me and my therapy practice
Up to one in 5 of us is neurodivergent (such as ADHD, autistic, or AuDHD) and many of us self-identify or are diagnosed formally in adulthood. This means we may not have had the chance to fully understand ourselves and what we need during our earlier years. I know from my research, that neurodivergent people say they can spend valuable time in therapy educating their therapist about neurodivergence. I offer neurodivergence affirming therapy so that all of your experiences can be understood without you having to justify or explain your neurodivergence. I am experienced at working with anxiety and social anxiety, attachment challenges, burnout, depression, masking, overwhelm, relationships and divorce, trauma and abuse as well as parents supporting children with additional needs.
I work collaboratively with clients to make sense of what is going on and what this may mean. I help you to access compassion and acceptance to find respite and new ways of looking at the challenges that life can bring for us.
In the early stages of working together, we may focus on what is challenging right now and ways to help you manage in the moment and stay regulated. In longer term working, we could also look at the impact of past relational and other experiences to identify how these could be shaping your feelings today to enable you to make different choices about coping strategies. For many clients, especially neurodivergent clients, the focus may include considering changes in the environment you are in to make life easier.
Practice description
I work on a short and long term basis depending upon what is most helpful for the client.
My first session
Before arranging a first session, I suggest a free initial 15 minute conversation online to discuss how we might work together.
In our first session we would explore your hopes and goals for therapy and what has brought you to therapy at this time. We explore what has helped you to manage up to now and how you would like your life to be.
