About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working in the person-centred approach. In addition to private practice I currently work for a local charity with clients who have experienced trauma. As person centred therapy is largely nondirective, the emphasis is on creating a positive therapeutic relationship between myself and my client and a safe non-judgemental space to explore challenges, overcome barriers, heal and grow. For me, person-centred is about my client having the choice and control to direct their own journey at their own pace.
Practice description
Counselling is individual from person to person, therefore flexible tailored support will be offered. It is an evolving process which may mean we explore other techniques to meet needs as part of this process. We will work collaboratively throughout this to deepen self-understanding and encourage therapeutic change. My therapy practice offers:
Online and telephone sessions to clients across the UK.
In person sessions in Lancaster.
Home visits or walk and talk sessions that can be planned accordingly.
To ensure I am working safely and ethically with my clients I adhere to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ethical framework and have the following:
An up to date DBS check.
Professional indemnity insurance.
Registration with the Information Commissioners Office
Regular counselling supervision sessions.
I also engage in continuous professional development to ensure I can reflect on my practice and keep my knowledge and skills current. This ensures I can offer my clients the best support.
I offer lower rates to students and those on low income as it is important to me that counselling and therapy is affordable and accessible to all.
Sessions are generally weekly or biweekly, but can be adapted according to your needs.
My first session
Our first session is an opportunity for a gentle introduction to the therapeutic space. For us to get to know one another and to see if we are a good fit. For you to share any expectations for therapy and for us to have a conversation about what may work for you, there is no right or wrong way and you are the expert in this space. Ultimately we will begin to create the safe space and trusted relationship. There is no obligation to continue if you are not fully comfortable within the space.
