About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel Low ? Anxious ? Empty? Judged ? Misunderstood? Not listened to ? Let's talk about it. Slowly. Simply. In your own words. At your pace. Let me help you to feel heard and valued.
My name is Maxine and I am a huge people person - genuinely warm, refreshingly down to earth and really easy to talk to, which is exactly what is needed when you are reaching out for help. What you see is what you get.
My background has included working within the beauty/wellbeing/fashion industries where I have encountered working with huge amounts of people with a diverse range of personalities and behaviours. This has given me invaluable insight to struggle, insecurities, discrimination and demanding expectations. Transitions within the workplace, home, or in stages of our own lives, can impact profoundly. Having encountered periods of feeling exclusion and change in my own life at times, diversity, inclusion and belonging in all areas is extremely important to me. Though each person's experience is completely unique to them, I can relate to how it feels to be different and Understand the reluctance to step out of one's comfort zone. However, as a Counsellor, I have often witnessed growth, empowerment and laughter within the therapy room, should you choose to reach out.
Spending time working voluntarily with a mental health charity was hugely rewarding. Being able to help clients unable to access immediate help due to financial or red tape issues was gratifying for both the client and myself.
I have spent a number of years working as a Listening Volunteer with The Samaritans. My involvement here has covered a diverse range of callers of all ages, genders, ethnicities and social classes, including prisoners. Working with self harm and suicide ideation really brings home to me how awful and desperate life can be in someone's darkest moments. It teaches simply that struggle can come to anyone, regardless of who you are or where you are from. This is extremely humbling for me.
Practice description
I work in an integrative, but Person Centred way, which means that YOU, the client, are totally central in our therapeutic journey, after all, you are your own best expert right ?
I won't ever judge, but instead, aim to view things from YOUR perspective through YOUR eyes, in a way you may never have been seen or heard, in order for me to properly understand your situation. Then, we can figure out together, which approach will suit you best. In life people rarely listen..... REALLY listen but to be truly heard can have an incredible impact, and I promise to do my best to achieve this
My aim is to build enough trust and respect within our therapeutic relationship for you to feel safe enough to work through that heavy load in a safe and quiet space away from the noise and judgement of others. I can't promise that at times this quest won't be challenging or confronting, so we will work at your pace so you can control your narrative. And if it all gets a bit too much..well we can just sit quietly and breathe..pause and reset. Counselling isn't a sprint, it can be a marathon, but hopefully we can discover clarity and peace. I'm not here to heal, but instead to help you heal yourself.
I offer in person, face to face counselling either short term, medium or long dependent on each individual's needs
Reaching out for help and then finding the right Counsellor can feel frightening, but at the same time it could prove extremely liberating. Maybe you've tried before and it hasn't been the right choice ? Don't be deterred. One size doesn't fit all, so don't be afraid to make that initial contact with me, with no obligation, and let's see if we can work together.
My first session
I offer a free initial, no obligation, 15/20 minute informal telephone conversation. Here we can decide whether or not we are a 'good fit' and whether or not you might like to schedule a first appointment.
