About me and my therapy practice
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. How do you choose a therapist, with so much choice?
You don't have to come to therapy when you're in crisis. But you may be.
It can take a lot of courage to come to therapy, and for many, to continue to do. I aim to support you through whatever you're going through.
There is no right or wrong reason to come to therapy. Being human is complicated. We can be in and out of therapy several times in our lives, and for different, or the same reasons each time. It's up to you to to bring what it is you want to work on.
People go to the gym, and work on their bodies. Why wouldn't you do the same for your mind?
There may be something in your life that isn't as you would like. If you have the desire and the will to do something about it, you can change.
Humans are incredibly complex and fascinating beings, their resilience to life events, strength in adversity and ability to cope, change and grow, never ceases to amaze and impress me.
It's my belief that you are the expert on you. Therefore it's for us to explore together what it is that brings you to counselling, and what you hope to achieve.
In my practice I am grounded, authentic, calm and down to earth. I have experience of working with (but not limited to) anxiety, self-esteem, trauma-related childhood issues, drugs, gambling, alcohol and other substance-dependency issues.
Practice description
I provide a non-judgemental counselling and therapeutic service based in comfortable, calm and safe practice rooms in Bristol City Centre where you will always be warmly welcomed and safely held.
As an Integrative Counsellor I will tailor my approach to what's appropriate to you, with your permission. You鈥檙e always welcome to enquire about my practice.
I'll do my best to meet you where you are. Mostly, I use my counselling knowledge, life experience and skills to assist me in exploring how you see the world and where you want to go.
I work mindfully, relationally, carefully, thoughtfully, creatively and non-judgementally. I often work with the somatic, felt, bodily experience as well. I find it to be a very useful way of exploring some of our unconcious processes. The body knows many of our truths which our (concious) mind might not notice.
I hope to share some of my knowledge and what I've learnt on my journey thus far, which will hopefully empower you, with the tools to look after, and regulate yourself.
To me, the quality of our working relationship is at the core of our work together. I believe that it鈥檚 the quality of the therapeutic relationship that does the healing. It鈥檚 been argued that this is almost as important as the modality of the therapist.
Therefore I think it鈥檚 important for me to be the right 鈥渇it鈥 for you, and you for me.
My first session
I offer a free 15-30 minute telephone consultation to decide if booking a first session is suitable.
This is an opportunity to discuss the issues you want to explore.
If you decide to go ahead, we'll then have a first introductory, contracting and assessment session to plan how we might work together.
