About me and my therapy practice
About Me and My Therapy Practice
I don’t have a niche—I offer a warm, non-judgmental space for people from all walks of life. You’ll find me more relaxed and informal than my photo suggests!
I’m an LGBTQ+ ally, have lived experience with neurodiversity, and welcome the opportunity to explore your experiences—challenges, feelings, and triumphs alike.
Feel free to contact me for a free consultation to see how we might work together.
Therapeutic Experience
As a counsellor and counselling service co-ordinator at the Simeon Centre in Bolton, I support over 40 volunteer counsellors and hundreds of clients.
With more than 700 hours of therapy completed, I bring compassion and flexibility to each session.
I also have over 30 years of experience in supportive roles—across schools, mediation, SEN, addiction, and education services.
Training
I began with person-centred counselling and have since trained further in areas including trauma, relationships, diversity, and supporting survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.
I’m currently training as a psychosexual and relational psychotherapist, and am happy to work with you in this area.
Qualifications
Current: Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosexual and Relational Therapy (COSRT)
Advanced Therapeutic Counselling Diploma (Íø±¬ÃÅ)
Additional training in:
Trauma, Dissociation & Somatisation
Working with Shame
Adverse Childhood Experiences
Domestic Violence & Abuse
Substance Misuse and Mental Health
My Approach
I meet you where you are—offering a space that is supportive, gently challenging, and open to lightness and humour.
If you're feeling conflicted, disconnected, or overwhelmed, we can explore those feelings together at your pace. Therapy can help you slow down, understand what's happening, and reconnect with what matters—responding to yourself with greater clarity and care.
Practice description
How I Work
My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded. We’ll go at a pace that feels right for you.
We might explore how past experiences shape your present, noticing how you talk to yourself, and honour the parts of you that helped keep you safe, even if they now feel stuck or in conflict, finding new ways to support yourself going forwards.
I work in a person-centred, trauma-informed way, and draw from mindfulness, parts work, and tools like grounding, visualisation, or CBT techniques—tailored to your needs.
Session length and frequency are flexible. Some clients benefit from a few sessions, others choose to work longer-term. I also work with couples.
You don’t need to be in crisis—or have it all figured out.
Areas We Might Explore
- Anxiety, stress, or burnout
- Shame or a critical inner voice
- Emotional overwhelm or shutdown
- Trauma, including domestic or sexual abuse
- Depression or low motivation
- Life changes (e.g. menopause, children leaving home)
- Bereavement and loss (alzheimers, life limiting conditions)
- Neurodivergence (ADHD, autism)
- Boundaries and relationships
- Sexual wellbeing/sex positivity
I work with adults (18+) and offer concessionary rates for students or those on low incomes.
My first session
I offer a free 30-minute assessment so we can see if we’re a good fit. It’s a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for how I work.
After that, we can arrange in-person sessions in Chorlton, South Manchester or meet online via Zoom.
Whether this is your first time in therapy or you're returning, I’d be glad to hear from you.
I aim to respond within 24 hours—feel free to get in touch via the Íø±¬ÃÅ messaging system or by email LisaHowarthCounselling@hotmail.com
