About me and my therapy practice
Hello, and a warm welcome to my page. My name is Jennifer and I’m an integrative relational psychotherapist. What does that mean?
Relational: I believe that understanding how we are with others, and more importantly, how we are with ourselves, can offer us great insight and understanding of difficult or painful feelings, experiences and core beliefs. Your relationship with yourself might be strained, numb, hard to understand, or even critical and hurtful. You might be struggling in your relationships with others, perhaps often putting them first or feeling unheard.
Integrative: This means integrating a few ways of working for each person. I work with both person-centred and psychodynamic theories: I try to think about you and your well-being holistically – your lifestyle, your body, your mind, are all part of how you feel. Your past and present are also linked, and so I might help you explore how past conflicts might be showing up in your present. I sometimes work with attachment styles and specialise in helping avoidant clients get back in touch with their needs and feelings.
Starting therapy can be daunting. I believe that the relationship you create with your therapist should be safe, compassionate and non-judgemental, allowing you to explore areas that might feel sensitive. My role is to create a relationship based on mutual trust, where we can explore your sense of self, process old and new conflicts, and begin to learn how to manage any difficulties you may have.
Perhaps you’re struggling with low self-esteem, low moods, anxiety, or finding particular relationships difficult, whether romantic, familial or platonic. Maybe you’re feeling steady and in a place to explore and learn about yourself. My aim to is empower you to become more self-aware, self-confident and accepting of the unique person you are.
Practice description
I offer both long- and short-term therapy. Sometimes you only need 6-12 sessions to work on one particular issue. Perhaps you might find therapy a useful way to explore and learn about yourself over a longer period.
Sessions take place weekly. If you'd like to see me fortnightly, I ask for six weekly sessions first for us to develop a relationship and understanding of your goals, before moving to fortnightly.
I offer both online and in person therapy. You might prefer a combination.
I offer three tiers of fees per session. I don't ask you to prove what bracket you belong in - simply assess for yourself what you feel you can afford.
The normal rate is £75 per session.
Supported rate is £65 per session.
Low-cost rate is £40 per session. However, these slots are limited, and are currently fully booked. Do feel free to get in touch if you're interested in low-cost and would like to check availability for future sessions.
My first session
Please contact me with a brief description of what you'd like to explore and what dates/times are suitable for you, and I will be in contact within 48 hours to arrange a free 15 minute intro call to discuss your needs and answer any questions you may have. If we're happy to continue from there, we will then arrange an assessment.
The assessment session is to discuss what you'd like to achieve with therapy, and to consider if we're the right fit for each other. It lasts 50 minutes, and can take place either in person or online.
It is important to find a therapist that you feel comfortable working with, so there is no obligation to continue if you don't feel we work well together.
